The OG Shatner mask is above all others, of course. But I really like H6's mask too. It does look a little worn, but intimidating and foreboding as well. I just wish it would've been used in a better movie. (Yes, it was originally used to film parts of H20, but it doesn't really count since it isn't the "final" mask they use.)

It makes sense that he'd wear that mask because he gets it in the costume aisle of a drug store, exactly the kind of place you'd find those same Don Post reproduction masks. I was fine with the stark white color of it too, because it's ghost-like. Like a ghost returning from death to haunt the living, Michael Myers was returning to haunt Haddonfield again.

Personally loved the H5 mask best, feel like it had it's own weird creepy vibe to it. 🤷 It wasn't perfect by any stretch but none of them really were. Honestly i like the backstory in rob zombie because even before hes being abused hes already taking pleasure in killing things. But you dont know see a point where he snaps he just kills and kills without much thought. He just does it. He enjoys it. It has so much depth to the character and the mask embodies that. And halloween 6 has a great mask!

They actually converted a actual Kirk mask for the H4 mask, but they botched the paint job, left the sideburns, and made the hair black and slicked back

Fun fact, the sculpt for the masks in Part 4 actually had a decent amount of detail in its facial features. However, the masks they used on screen had so many coats of paint applied that most of it was obliterated.

whats interesting about the part 6 mask is that, in the first one the mask had a very blank expression. the halloween 6 mask appears to have 2 expressions at once, i cant tell if it's smiling or frowning. so it captures the essence of michael myers in a different type of way, and looks great too while being different looking than the first one.

They said in a documentary that in H4 they had Shatner looking masks but they were pink with blonde hair. They didn’t have time to redo it so they painted those white, which hid the features that were present, and dyed the hair. Apparently that is what is filmed in H4

Well with H20, they were screening "dailies" while production was going on. That means the studio execs, producers, and director would sit down and watch the footage that was just filmed to see if they like it. When watching dailies they filmed while using the H6 mask, an exec stood up and said that they hated Michael Myers' mask. So then everyone panicked and had to hurry around, hire new mask makers to make new masks, refilm scenes using the new masks, and even hired freakin' ILM to create a CG mask to put over the physical mask in editing during a scene they couldn't reshoot. Movies usually have to film scenes out of order to accommodate the availability of cast members, crew members, and even shooting locations, so sometimes you lose an actor because he has to leave for another acting job and you just can't reshoot his scenes if something went wrong. Plus, they've often got to be finished in time for a release date, so they have to do everything to meet a deadline. They couldn't just scrap everything they had already shot and refilm the entire film. That would take up too much time, money, and probably end up delaying its release more than they'd like. They refilmed what they could and used what they couldn't refilm. That's just how the movie business works, and explains why the Myers mask went through so many changes during H20.

It's like the H20 mask aged up slightly ( ironically the H8 mask IS the H20 mask if you watch it chronologically), but the very questionable thing about it is the need to slap eyeshadow all over it. That was waaaay too much and made Michael look like he hadn't slept in months.

I agree with the mask rankings. I also think that with H7-H8, what killed those movies too was the guys that they used to play Michael. You could just about see their faces through the fucking eye holes. They didn't fill those masks at all which totally killed it. I also believe that Michael needs to have some size on him. In between George P. Wilbur and Taylor Mane which by the sounds of the new Michael's height and weight, he should be very sinster. Sincerely, "Cookie Woman"

The "alien" mask in H20 is not CGI, it was the initial mask commissioned by KNB, it was used for 2 weeks and then production was halted when it didn't look right. Then the H6 mask was used for 2-3 days, and finally a new mask by Stan Winston was used for the remainder of the shoot, and as much as possible was reshot with that mask. The CGI mask you speak of is in one sequence for just a moment, because the scene could not be reshot, and they didn't want any remaining close-ups of the "alien" mask in the film.
