And i'd much prefer to have a champions league (biggest club trophy) and be remembered as a legend than win a premier league and not be remembered by anyone... Also lets not forget, Owens contribution to that premier league win was 2 goals in 10 sub appearance the whole season lmaoo
@cddb54086 жыл бұрын
cyka You're forgetting the previous season 2009/10 Owen featured a lot more for ManUtd, aside from helping ManUtd win the league cup scoring in the final which I know isn't that great it's the sort of height he reached at Liverpool and not much higher but in the Premier league he scored the late winner against Man city etc...and he and the team were robbed of the title by 1 point because Chelsea were given decisions galore home&away against ManUtd multiple offside decisions, penalties for ManUtd not given in both games for Chelsea to win both games narrowly to take the title narrowly. Plus the cheats Liverpool deliberately lost vs Chelsea on the penultimate game of the season just to delay ManUtd going above Liverpool on number of league titles won (Gerrard's backpass to Drogba, if Gerrard was as good a player as some people claim he was he wouldn't make that same exact mistake in his career yet again when he had already done it twice for ThierryHenry). Shame Liverpool beat ManUtd at all costs when they met in the PL at Anfield in October that season when Carragher got away with 2 last man fouls, Lucas was literally allowed to foul all game without even getting booked etc...so that's another 6 points given in Chelsea's favour to go with the 12point swing in the head-to-head games between ManUtd and Chelsea where Chelsea were 2nd best in both, didn't even deserve 1 draw but got 2 wins. ManUtd were the best team in 2009/10, got the most points against the top5/6 team's (despite being robbed twice vs Chelsea) and deserved a record 4th PL title in a row. ManUtd never resorted to "winning" any of their 13 Premier league's in that manner if you look up the seasons. So back to Owen only just qualifying for the PL medal the following year it works out fair looking at 2009/10 if you're honest about it. Would you have been satisfied if ManUtd were just not robbed in 2009/10 instead? Either way it worked out right for him to get at least 1 PL medal. Also he scored a hatrick vs Wolfsburg in the Champions league 2009/10 and his contributions in that competition should've given him at least a champions league finalist medal that year Bayern robbed ManUtd in the quarter-finals, the incident where Ribery is pushing Rafael more than vice versa and Rafael is sent off after they surrounded the ref is still annoying. ManUtd would've reached the final had he not been sent off, I'm not saying we definitely would've beaten Inter but we would've beaten Lyon in the semi's and at the time I would've fancied Inter we usually knock them out and did so tge previous season with the same mamager in charge of Inter but I still can't say either way whether we would've definitely won or lost. But we were robbed of at least the final that year, we were robbed of the PL that season. When Man city won the title on goal difference at our expense in 2012 I accept that because Man city didn't have to cheat against us to win it. I would've preferred ManUtd thrashing Chelsea in 2009/10 home and away (like we deserved to, by far the better team particularly at Stamford bridge in Nov2009) and if we still failed to win the title even if we were say robbed of a win in our last game of the season I'd congratulate the champions because yeah decisions go for and against every team over the course of a season but Chelsea were given at least a 12point headstart in 09/10 (that doesn't even include the fixed Anfield fixtures When the 2 challengers went there) when you take maximum points off your main title rival you should be able to win the title and can only blame yourselves if you don't (I.e ManUtd losing to Blackburn 1995, Liverpool losing to ManUtd in 2009 although the latter Liverpool were closer to coming 3rd than 1st). We would've won yet another PL at a canter if we took maximum points off Chelsea in 2009/10, Chelsea needed maximum points against ManUtd via many poor decisions to even stand a chance of taking a title off ManUtd in that period where we were by far the best team in the country for 5 straight seasons (2006/07 to 2010/11).
@cddb54086 жыл бұрын
cyka Also who says Liverpool would've won the Champions League in 2005 had Owen played for them then? Ok they were never amazing in the days Owen played for them but they still had their days against very good team's and were certainly looked at as more of a threat when he played for them then the mediocre team that won it in 2005 mainly because team's underestimated Liverpool, the final even epitomizes that. Any final between 2 heavyweights where 1 team has a 3 goal lead they don't lose because they respect their opponent/still feel a threat and close the game down (like Barca did against us in 2009 only 2-0 and they were trying to shut the game down cos they knew if ManUtd got back into it they'd be in big trouble as ManUtd did threaten to score many times in that final despite not playing as well as expected). Don't get me wrong I remember wanting Liverpool to win that UCL 2005 final (which I regret a bit now) because they were such underdogs and at the time weren't very successful or looked at as a threat but that was exactly the reason in that particular season why they won it because team's didn't expect it, but it made for some great games and it was an interesting run they went on. You shouldn't be so bitter about Michael Owen, just be grateful he got you many goals in his last season at Liverpool which allowed u to scrape that champions league place in the first place. You're surely not stupid enough to not know if you don't qualify you can't win it....and Liverpool didn't warrant qualifying really, "champions" of nothing, scrape 4th 30 points behind the English champions, another 37points behind English champions 2005 in an otherwise bad season hence why team's didn't take them seriously.

I loved Michael Owen and I’m grateful for everything he did at Liverpool but I’ve heard this kind of stuff trotted out by him a lot over the years. Every time he ended up signing for another club after Real the line was ‘I wanted to get to Liverpool but it didn’t work out’. It’s garbage. I never held it against him for going to Real, it wasn’t ideal selling him for cut price but fair enough. Going to Newcastle was a massive mistake. He could have come back to Liverpool and been part of something great but he clearly chased the money and the playing time so he could play for his beloved England. Actually after watching this I think he shows Newcastle and their fans a lot of disrespect by saying he always wanted to get back to us the whole time he was there and spending 5 years there on great money before sliding out the free transfer door. Then he goes to United, enough said. A great player, but will never be up there with Gerrard, Kenny, Rush or Fowler in terms of favourites.

I don’t mind Owen but he really doesn’t help himself, the best opportunity he would have had to go back to Liverpool was when he was a free agent after leaving Newcastle in the summer of 2009, he incorrectly says that Suarez was there at the time (1 & a half years before he actually signed) & that Liverpool weren’t in need of a striker, Torres was the main man, but the back ups were Voronin & N’Gog plus Kuyt as an auxiliary forward, if Liverpool really wanted him they could have done it but from the outside looking in they just didn’t fancy him 🤷♂️

Basically He isn't liked by any fan group of clubs he played for, Madrid fans barely saw him play he was always injured, Newcastle fans hate him bcuz he called them a small club before he left, liverpool fans hate him cuz he ran his Contract down and left to Madrid almost on a free deal (Liverpool only got 25% of wat he was worth at the time) and he joined united the biggest sin of all & united fans don't like him cuz he's a former Liverpool player. He keeps mentioning Suarez,yet Suarez came after Owen had gone to ManUnited and there was no way of him coming to Liverpool.He had the chance to return multiple times,Rafa had it all ready.If he really wanted it,he would have returned.Instead,he chose to go to Liverpool's worst enemy, deleting all the love and appreciation they had for him.Shameless.His career was finished the moment he left Merseyside anyway, like so many other players.

hes got more people to think about than you. he has family, a wife that wanted to go live back in England... kids... its alright holding out for something not guaranteed at all, when your families future and happiness are at steak. madrid didnt need the cash, and knew people were prepared to pay 16m for him. they could have easily just kept him another year/ half a year and tried their luck again in the transfer market. clubs like that arent just gonna chuck away 6 million on a panic sale last minute. they knew liverpool or someone else would likely offer at least 10 next year anyway. they likely knew owens situation where he was desperate to go back to the UK too for family reasons

Why did he have the mindset of only going for a year and coming back, isn’t that a little defeatist? He did well at Madrid, maybe if he went in with a longer term mentality having been a Balon D’or winner previously and one of the best strikers in Europe at the time, he could’ve carved out a good career out there! Blimey, give me the city and lifestyle of Madrid over England any day of the week... and playing with all those legends... Ended up back at Newcastle, what a come down 😩😩

Half of them are mates while were arguing in the pubs etc But to be brought through Liverpools youth system to have played in some Extremely bitter Utd livepool games like the one he was sent off in at OT. The abuse he would have received from United fans. Songs about Murderers and Burning Scousers. To them run around that same pitch for them is beyond me. Why? In his own words he was effectively finished as a striker, Newcastle did us a massive favour! What he has failed too answer was why like his mate Macmanaman he was running down his contract, we all know the answer, but why not admit that money was the deciding factor! Remember this, when he attempted too return too Liverpool after his year on Reals bench, Liverpool offered £10m but Newcastle offered £16m, he asked Liverpool could they up their offer, at no stage did he offer reduced wages too Liverpool to facilitate the move.
