Michael Sheen in Nye - review with 33 Photos

Review of Nye starring Michael Sheen as Aneurin Bevan. Tim Price’s new play covers Bevan’s life story and his part in the foundation of the NHS. (Warning: if you are unfamiliar with this historic story, you may find there are spoilers in this review.)
It is performing at the National Theatre and Wales Millennium Centre, and on NTLive. Cast also includes Sharon Small, Roger Evans, Tony Jayawardena and Jon Furlong. It is directed by Rufus Norris in his last production as Artistic director of the National Theatre, with set design by Vicki Mortimer, lighting design by Paule Constable and video by Jon Driscoll.

Saw it last night and thought that was a great and fair review. Like you I think the other sniffier reviews criticise it for something it doesn't claim to be. And no, you weren't the only one with a tear in their eye at the end.

Michael Sheen keeps upwards from strength to strength - incredible. I can never get to see these productions so have to live them through reviews until their recordings are available...though it's not the same as being there. How many of us wouldn't be alive now if Nye hadn't fought for services to ensure our lives? Interesting that one of the architects of the r*pe of the NHS was Tony Blair, also once played by Sheen.
