Michael Todd shared his predictions about the East vs West 16 supermatches on Engin Terzi's channel.
Michael Todd vs Ermes Gasparini
This match with Ermes is the most important of my life, because if I don't win it, I don't get a shot at Levan. My goal is to pull Levan, but I have to beat Ermes first. I’ve had a good run for the past year, but Ermes has a very impressive record, so most people might say he’s the favorite. I’ve been stronger in traditional gym lifts in the past, but this is the strongest I've ever been in arm wrestling-specific exercises. I am very confident that if I went back in time and faced Pushkar again in the form I am now, I’d win that match. But I know Ermes is at a very high level right now, and that is what makes this fight so important for me.
I weigh between 310 and 318 pounds. As for endurance, I believe mine comes from my desire to win when the match stops. I believe that if Ermes can’t get me in a bad position quickly or win the hand battle, I’m going to win, even if it’s a long match. I feel that I'm better at winning from bad positions than he is. This match isn’t going to be quick. I don't think either of us can just blast through the other. It's going to be a long, technical match where we'll both be giving it our all to win.
Ermes has one of the best transitional presses in the game. He also has a good flop press, as we saw against Vitaly and Dave. If he has to flop press me to beat me, he can't. He has to have my hand, climb over it, and press me. If you try to flop press me to pin me, you're falling into a trap, and you're going to lose. Ermes is a phenomenal tactician, he's very technical, and he has all the right tools. He's a very dangerous person for me specifically. I just think this match is going to be highly contested. I think I win 51%.
Devon Larratt vs Genadi Kvikvinia
I think the match itself is going to get heated. I believe Genadi will be as strong as he was in their previous match, maybe even stronger, but I also think Devon is going to be stronger than he was. Genadi is so confident because he’s pulling Devon. Devon is different, and he's a very difficult person to prepare for. I think Devon's the favorite, but it's a close match. Devon has to destroy him because if he doesn’t, it’s going to turn into a heart match, and Genadi will feed off that crowd. If it gets emotional, we’ll see the same thing happen again.
Vitaly Laletin vs Artyom Morozov
Morozov is a beast and has had some great title defenses. I still think Vitaly is the favorite. The only way I see Morozov winning is if he somehow stops Vitaly’s initial attacks, goes outside, slips, and gets the straps. Vitaly has the power to flash pin Morozov 4 times. For me to beat Vitaly, I'm gonna have to stop him low most likely and gas him. You know how hard it's going to be to stop that explosive long lever of that proficient dude.
Alex Kurdecha vs David Dadikyan
Alex did very well against Morozov. The sheer violence of Dadikyan makes me think that he is the favorite. David is one violent individual at the table, he's so aggressive, and I just think he might put Alex in such a bad position so fast that the match will be over. Alex has a press left-handed, so Alex has options.
Frank Lamparelli vs Serhii Kalinichenko
I like this match a lot. Frank is a bad dude, and his triceps look really big right now.
Brad Grundy vs Bacho Saginashvili
Brad is a very good arm wrestler, he's got a great setup, a perfect toproll, and excellent hand control. Everything is very, very good. He’s not going to be as explosive as Bacho, not even close, but if he comes in top form, like when he defeated Pavlo and Matt Mask, then it’s 55%-45% for Bacho. Otherwise, Bacho will have an 80%-20% advantage.
Vasily Dautashvili vs Stoyan Golemanov
I like Stoyan a lot, he's amazing. I go back to Vasily's match with John Brzenk at the Top 8 for the 95kg thing. That kid is super impressive. Just watching him train, it's hard to make an educated guess on two people who don’t have enough data. But my personal opinion is Vasily probably wins 55%.
Irakli Zirakashvili vs Todd Hutchings
I love Irakli, but I have to go with Todd. Irakli is very good, but Todd is just so crazy strong. I like this match a lot.
