MICHAEL USIFO ATAGA'S MURDER: CHIDINMA'S CONFESSION - THE MORNING SHOW

Only recently a 21-year-old undergraduate of the University of Lagos, Chidinma Ojukwu killed the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Ataga. The 300-level student of Mass Communication was arrested at her parents' residence in Yaba, Lagos State. The undergraduate was speaking at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja after being paraded by the State Commissioner of Police.
ARISE News obtained the exclusive interview she had with The Punch Newspapers.

Someone in his position would have easily funded it including her side business. It's a side chick gig, and I understand some guys even pay rent for these girls. This is a Nigerian killing a Nigerian, not government doing anything. But I do get your point of view. A lot of young girls sell themselves for money just to finance some business on the side. It can appear like they need capital to build a life independent of a 9-5 employment based future in this Nigerian economy. But in many cases, its the quest for the easy life on the fast lane that leads them to it.

I have listened to your comments and agree that this is an unfortunate event. You however appear more sympathetic to the deceased, no one is commenting on the irresponsible behavior of rich and powerful men in our society. You people especially the lady reporter appear to have little or no sympathy for this young woman who’s life is also ruined. Yes so May be she is greedy. But she is also somebodies child. We live in a society which makes such young women victims. A society where rich married men act with impunity, use drugs , alcohol and money to buy sexual favors from young vulnerable and poor young university girls . In a civilized society, very person deserves their day in court. We can not be judge and Jury. Even though what this young lady allegedly did was horrible, non of us was in that room when it happened so we should not take sides when it comes to what actually transpired that day because we where not there. People act irrational when they are under the influence of alcohol and drugs. My heart again goes out to the late man’s family but we as a society have to look at the root cause of all this. This is a teachable moment. Why will a responsible rich 50 yr old man take a poor, financially strapped 21 yr old college girls young enough to be their daughter’s to use drugs , alcohol and have sex with them turning them into drug addicts because they need money? . Will such men want another man doing that to their daughters ? Think about this. I hope this incident deters other men that have similar life style. Stop ruining young girls lives because they are poor and need money. Such men like in this instance may end up biting off more than they can chew. This is a very sad situation. I hope young women also learn from this.

You have made it seem like the man went to the lady's hostel and waved a car key and a bag full of money at her, then threatened that she either goes to smoke with him or remain poor for the rest of her life. There have always been successful old men who look for younger women to spend time with. There also have been poor young women who made it without having to sleep around with these old men. The fact that you think old rich men should stop enticing young women shouldn't mean that they deserve death. George Floyd was killed for spending a counterfeit note. People shouldn't blame a broken home because they are a lot of single mothers and single fathers that are doing a good job in bringing their children up to become a better citizen. Chidima blames what she did because her mother was not around, I don't buy that at all. If a child or children want to be bad, they can be very very bad whether mother and father are still together. As for school fees, you don't have to kill someone in order to pay your fees or to do business, it is not an excuse at all to take a life. The kind of life style she was living, she needs money also to maintain it, drugs and alcohol she was taking are not cheap. Not only money for school fees and doing business, according to her she has known this person for only four or five months, was that an excuse to kill him because he refused to give you money?

All we need to confirm is if this was premeditated. That will justify the death penalty. But if not, prison sentence will cut it. The police Forensic Investigations department at Alagbon is what we need to build an air tight case right now to determine that. My condolence to the Ataga family. As for the Perp, She can pray to God to give her another chance. I don't think it is up to society to do that. We derive no pleasure in her current situation or fate. Sympathy for the devil can be a good thing for our society but we can't be certain a second chance will bring us or the victims family hope for her personal salvation. Only God can know that. We can pray for her salvation though, but God is the ultimate judge. It is a pity.

His murder was not justified but there are lessons to be learned from this. One important one is "thou shall not commit adultery and fornication" and how doing so can lead to immense tragedy not just for those doing it but also for their families.
