Someone at church requested this song and I was a little anxious over playing it (on my flute) since it is such a familiar secular song. But listening to this by MWSmith convinced me that the values it conveys to me (that we all need to be the bridge for those that are hurting in this world) and hopefully the further value many of us know of (that Jesus is the ultimate Bridge for all of us) will shine through! I was 10 when my grandpa died. This played at his memorial... I'll never forget that day. Last nite, I found out my great grandma died. She was 95. Now I listen to this song, and I can just member, that my grandfather is in a better place, and he isn't suffering. And neither is she. RIP. grandma Wilson. And grandpa partlow

This song was #1 on the charts for 7 straight weeks in 1970. It's truly a universal message, as it speaks to the listener's heart, no matter what allegory it may be tied to. Paul and Art at their best. How ironic that it was the "straw that broke the camel's back" for Simon and Garfunkel as a group. Great performance, Michael. I sang this song directly to my wife as it was playing while we were dancing face to face with each other at our wedding reception in June of 2003. We were just divorced on Wed Feb 2nd. This song will remind me of how my heart was broken by her betrayal and infidelity. It wasn't supposed to be like this. Love has become ancillary and meaningless in our disposable Western society.
