We often drive a wedge when we are sharing the Gospel. She said timing is everything. He is not prideful and boastful. In 1959 , Elvis rode in to a small Restaurant on a Harley with 2 more riders . In a small town Odonville, Alabama. My dad and mom , me and my Sister were eating. I was only 8 , but my mom and dad knew exactly who he was .He paid for our dinner and talk with my dad as if just a normal thing . Never forgot that. He was a very sweet caring man .

Steven Yourke In the book “Careless Love - The Unmaking of Elvis Presley” it has interviews with his sound engineers who talk about how he didn’t have any type of monitors until 1971, and when he finally had them the first time, and he heard himself when he was singing See See Rider he turned around and looked at the sound man like a kid in a candy store. Also if he had monitors in 1969 and 1970 in Vegas, where are they at? There is tons of video footage and thousands of photos from all these shows but yet there isn’t a single video or photo with a monitor anywhere in it. Not even on the side of the stage.

You've got the ones that face the audience (the PA) and the ones that face the performers (the monitors). The performers can't hear the ones that face away from them, or if they can, its distant and poor quality. The ones on stage allow them to hear well. Nowadays, many performers use ear pieces instead of stage monitors.

Carolyn Wright: My wife and I retired (while living in Ohio, USA) in 2001 and purchased a winter home in Florida where we lived 9-10 months every year (until 2017). Charlie Hodge was the man who gave Elvis his scarves, water, etc., and unknown to many people, Charlie was professionally voice trained and also normally sang high harmony with Elvis. Until charlie passed away in 2006, we ALWAYS stopped by "Memories Theatre" in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. to see Charlie because Charlie appeared EVERY night they had an Elvis impersonator. Charlie was a very down to earth man and loved talking about his life with Elvis to you if you desired. One memorable statement Charlie told my wife and I was that Elvis would sometimes sing bass (1 octave above JD - JD normally sang 2 octaves below middle C) just to show JD Sumner that he (Elvis) could also sing bass if he wanted. Charlie also said that sometimes in live performances, Elvis without warning, would sing the high part of harmony, forcing him (Charlie) to sing the low part. Charlie said he knew deep down inside that Elvis purposely did that just so he (Elvis) could show Charlie that he (Elvis) could also sing the high lead if he desired. Thank you.

I, too, am from Ohio, but have been in Florida for far too many years.....another whole story. I got to see Charlie in Cincinnati in 1978 with my mother at an Elvis convention. What a treat! He was a gem and I really enjoyed the conversation. He really was interested in talking about his life with Elvis. It seemed that Charlie was a true friend and Elvis did depend on him for your list above. Charlie surely seemed dedicated to Elvis. I only found out recently that Charlie had passed away. I'm so sorry I never got to see him again. Meeting him is and always will be a cherished memory.

Love this story, he had a vocal range that mesmerizes me from the time he started out to the day he finished! Music was his gift across the globe, I live in the UK where his style, looks, and music in the 1950s/1960s influenced the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and many many others. The music was so different, so energetic, so exciting from what had gone before that young kids at the time were simply spell-bound!

Never mind if he wrote his own songs or not; there are plenty of singers who do not. I am just thinking of his pure talent as a singer; he was able to do everything from Sinatra to the Beatles and everything in between!! Whether it was rock-n-roll, gospel, country,soul, blues,etc; he could do it all. Even the original singers like Sinatra admitted that he loved his version of "My Way" and he also stated that he like his class that Elvis showed not release his versions of these songs until they were off the charts and in nearly every version Elvis's version was more popular and higher!

+Bobby Hub Elvis bought a lot of songs from a good writer. But those songs he bought, they were rough and never heard. He got lyrics and chords and a slight idea what the song might sound like when he bought them. Elvis made the song great. As if he bought a ball of clay and sculpted it into something beautiful. And all the covers he did, he did them justice. Having Elvis cover one of your songs is akin to being Knighted by the Queen of England. Long live the King.
