great job again Michael. 3D is very complex and needs hours and hours of lessons like these, but you managed to sum it up pretty well with lots of precious advice.

One of my "light bulb" moments years ago when learning to Prop Hang (aka Hover) was realizing that the plane need not be straight up and down. Try Hovering with the Cowling over the Canopy and it will synch much better. My $0.02 Worth ~R~

Great flying and teaching ! Wondering Why do you touch the airplane in flight ? This is very dangerous especially for beginners.

I really only do it because catching it and that control has been a signature thing. Yes, is dangerous and you are right, it is really just showing off and I shouldn't...

Firstly I'd like to express how helpful these videos and the others you have done around 3D and sport flying have been, I think I've watched them all a few times over now! I just built my ADXL and maidened it on Tuesday. I couldn't believe how tame it was on low rates but also how mental it could be on high rates. I set up everything as per the manual and Hans' very VERY helpful build tips videos (they supplemented the manual to perfection!). (the maiden video is on my channel) My question is regarding CG position and which prop you use/prefer. I have my CG right around the middle 164mm as was recommended in the manual. Do you have all 3 CG positions marked in the battery tray and would you change prop based on the CG position, weather and/or both? i currently only have the 164mm position marked and am running the Vox 15x8. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated! Thankyou

I think a lightbulb went on.when I try knife edge I forget to use the throttle for altitude mgmt.and I need to remember the rudder becomes an elevator

"We have some crazy convections from nearby trees that are turning the plane" lol like when my "transmitter dips in signal so my hover screwed up" hes great dont get me wrong just makes me giggle when guys have a hard time saying oops screwed that one up.

Hi Michael... in regards to the throttle 'blipping' that seems synonymous with low harriers and such, have you ever experimented with altering the throttle curves either in the transmitter or the ESC's to provide a smoother transition from, say, 10% thru 90% throttle and then leave the power spike from 90 - 100%? I've noticed a number of ESC's have a 'burst' at around 60 - 70% throttle. I find that's my sweet spot on my planes for hovering and other maneuvers. As I was playing around with some multi-rotor firmware (another branch of the hobby I enjoy) I thought, "why not try a multi-rotor curve on a 3D plane?!" The throttle curve on a multi-rotor ESC is typically much smoother throughout the range with that 'burst' happening closer to 90 - 100% throttle. I was amazed at how much easier 3D moves became when throttle was more tame and consistent. Sorry for the long-winded response... I was just wondering if you'd had a chance to mess with throttle curves and/or if your experience with them was good or bad? Thanks a bunch for all your vids... very helpful and informative!! Cheers, J.

I have used throttle curves for gas engines, and occasionally electric to smooth things out or put the sweet spot higher on the throttle, but whatever works for you. Usually, it is to avoid having it too jumpy. LIke one click from not enough to too much. BUt electrics usually smooth out with better prop.

Michael Wargo Thanks for the response. I haven't flown much in the way of fuel based engines... a couple 4 strokes. Too messy for my tastes :) and the gassers I haven't moved up to yet. Interesting bit about the prop smoothing things out for electrics. Do you prefer wood vs. other materials or does it vary based on application? Cheers, J.

Hey Michael. I really love your channel. Subscribed. I'm learning 3D right now and this is helpful. One question though. What are the beeping sounds you are using? Does the plane have a gyro? I hear those beeps on other videos too and I think it's crucial that I know what they are. Thanks in advance.
@MichaelWargo
@MichaelWargo 6 жыл бұрын
It is not a gyro... LOL. no gyros for me. The sound is a throttle on and off. It beeps when it turns the timer off at zero or near zero throttle. Just a radio setting.

Oh okay gotcha. If it's not too much trouble, could you recommend a good starter electric 3D plane? I bought a flight simulator and I have been practicing my orientation and other things. I am fairly new and I have flown a few times on my regular planes. Thanks man.
