Some songs really I listen to really hit my emotions. But when I play them: something like john Prine's "Hello In There", or Warren Zevon's "Mutineer", I'm actually reduced to tears. Music separates us from the animals.

MAB I think you are one of the great guitarists in the history of rock, especially for your innovations, technical capabilities, knowledge and speed and cleanliness of execution, and because you always seek to go beyond the possibilities of the guitar and your positive attitude. With this you have influenced many young people and even adult musicians, myself included.

This is absolutely amazing. First he has to realize how crazy and unreal this is for long time fans. Michael Angelo is a Legend, LEGEEEEEEND for aspiring guitarists. I remember watching his VHS when I was a young teen and just being amazed by the song No Boundaries and his playing. Now here he is interacting live and talking, etc. It's insane! Absolutely love it. And as far as this particular video, its funny because he has aaaaabsolutely no need to justify his authority on teaching guitar, just look at his work and that should convince you. But also it's cool to just go ahead and document the fundamental diversity for any silly trolls that may show up. Showing all those chords and summary of guitar history, etc. He's the man, he's a living modern day master, with true understanding of what it takes to reach that level.

I was Born June 14 1965 wonder what his B-day is ? I was not a big fan of Nitro in the 80's . But have been watching his lessons like this I'm a Fan of him and his Teaching style . Even after 35 yrs of playing I'm learning things from him that are making be a better more well rounded Guitarists !Plus he and interesting guy and talks about Guitar like I talk with other players very comfortable no EGO . Most Guitarists the Shredders like Vai , Lynch , EVH . Lynch is my favorite all time but hes a terrible teacher cant slow his riffs or solos down for a Intermediate player to grasp I help translate those kinda Lessons to my less accomplished friends and especially Kids who some will be as good or better then me in a few years . Wish I had the Internet in the mid 80's when I was really putting in the work with very slow returns until I got a Power Chord chart Light Bulb moment !!

MAB and Dimeola are my favorite players and both are off the charts in all respects, but they either cannot or will not actually talk about the detailed techniques of how to cross strings using alternate picking. (I do have the three disk version of Speed Kills and he talks about everything but that critical "detail".) Playing slow is great but if you watch video of MAB playing slow and moving up to speed you see that his picking technique changes COMPLETELY, specifically his masterful alternate picking string crossing which separates him from the others. (When I say it changes I do not mean the finger moving technique for slow speed versus more "rigid" approach he talks about on the latest SK videos.) You can clearly see he is passing over and moving from string to string while alternate picking. He never talks about that string crossing at high speed technique. If you watch the close up and slowed down videos made of his playing you see what he does but I have never heard any of the great virtuosos from Dimeola to MAB actually talk about this. They just say start slow and you will get fast. Well actually not necessarily. You can practice all the exercises at slow speed (clumsily hopping high over the strings, which will never work at speed) for a million years, but if you are not practicing what you need to make all of the string crossings at high speed, like MAB does with ease, you are wasting your time as far as getting up to speed. Until these guys start actually describing what they are doing at speed this is a lot of blah blah and unless you just stumble on how to do this you won't get very far. You might as well make due by adding economy picking and legato as needed. If you can do what MAB does than you have figured this out and congratulations! All the guitar videos these guys sell all say the same thing and they all claim their exercise is the magic bullet. The particular exercise is not what is important here. There is no debating that you cannot magically move mystically through a string to continue alternate picking another string. You simply have to pass over the strings with a high degree of efficiency. MAB is on my Mount Rushmore of GTR Gods but I don't really think Speed Kills as it is currently formatted will really get you fast unless you know how to cross strings across all six strings with any number of notes per string, meaning all possible odd or even combinations.

Regarding melody......I could listen to Vito Bratta all day long. As for speed, it's good when used properly. When Malmsteen first came out it sounded awesome because it was kind of new. But by his 3rd album, I was bored with him because it all sounded the same. I preferred his slower stuff, but there wasn't much of it. So yeah, Vito all day. :-)

5:30 MAB. Mentions Hannon exercises for piano and Czerny School of velocity, inspired the Speed Kills System of what to play on guitar to get you there Czerny was actually Beethovan's technique teacher! MABs riffing really has momentum to it that builds. Certain riffs just work great on guitar .I'm sure there are many piano riffs that would be quite difficult on guitar that are easier on piano. But Mike knows what works on both instruments the best.
