My studying of Japanese is very new and not particularly advanced but I was positive that they are all using "kare" and not "kare-tatchi" (which wouldn't make sense at all) to refer to margaritte so far as I can tell. So this is definitely localizers literally assuming the dude's gender because he looks like he'd make a good tool for the "cause". I can't await the AI translators replacing localizers so I can actually get the intended story for once without politics being forced in. Japanese really don't have the ideological BS we do in the west.
