So far in 2024 there have been more layoffs and we can't even count. Every week dozens of companies are announcing more job cuts we get we keep being told that the economy is doing great. Also, something I want to uncover in this video is the booming stock market. One of the reasons the companies are doing so well is because they are cutting a massive amount of jobs reducing their expenses. Not something you would see in a strong economy.

What they typically do is start with raising the bar for performance to levels that they expect people not to meet. That way they can give poor performance reviews to employees that allows them to justify firing the employee. This saves them from having the negative perception of a layoff while still eliminating employees.

Lumber prices are based on lumber futures. Lumber futures trading is big business. The prices are set between buyers and sellers of futures long before lumber shipments hit the markets. Same as oil futures. Buying and selling lumbers futures s highly profitable. One of the main reasons being the global demand for lumber has increased significantly. I had some major projects planned on my property. I looked at lumber futures prices before the pandemic. The futures prediction was a 600% increase in lumber costs. I stocked up. Lumber increased 600%, and the prediction is the prices you see are the settled prices, they are never going back to pre 2020 prices. Demand is too high. China is illegally stripping the Congolese Basin of lumber. They have been doing it for years. There are entire subtribes of people in the Congo that are now slaves being forced to strip lumber. American manufacturers are having to find alternate suppliers of lumber. Lumber prices wont be going down no matter how good the economy gets. Demand is extremely high and demand is growing. We could blame speculators but they are simply profiting on demand and taking risk. Unlike metals, demand cannot be met with a new strike. Only new growth. And forest growing isnt keeping up with demand, or China wouldnt be destroying the Congo.

Exactly! The reason many went to HD was to save money by doing the project themselves. Now with materials marked up so high from where they were 4-5 years ago the savings from DIY have been diminished. It may still be more costly to hire someone but in many cases the only way a person could afford the project was by doing it themselves. At these prices I think a lot of folks just have to abandon the project altogether.

I am employed at a veterinary clinic. They judt informed all the employees last week that they are reducing our hours due to reduced profitability . I am going from a 36-40 hr to a 20-25 hr week. We are already understaffed as it is. This is going to make it way worse.

That’s happening in every job sector it seems behind the scenes not spoken about the 35/40 hr work week is shrinking it to 30/32 hr work basically a 4day work week either you take it or you quit to find another job to find out all companies are doing this …my sector is Big box Luxury retail dept store there eating from the inside out slowly squeezing out what they will keep and what to let go or just eliminate job titles completely to give the duties to be given to another still standing in that office that’s next in rank proximity though it doesn’t just end there several depts like support staff cuts, facilities will start changing who they buy from for the day to day operations which then affects other things
@b3owu1f
@b3owu1f 12 күн бұрын
@@chaka1370 Thing is.. unlike any other time in our history.. these jobs aren't going to be replaced by new jobs. This is the beginning of the walled cities and a massive number of people without work. Between technology, automation and yes AI, a massive number of jobs are no longer needed to be done by humans. Hell they got machines that pick crops faster, 24/7, better than humans. The cost of the machines are millions..but after a year of not paying 100s of people to do that work, and running them 24/7.. they pay them off and make profit. I've been saying this for years, as someone in the tech sector finding every single job I apply to having 1000+ applications within minutes of it being posted.. it is by far.. and I mean literally exponentially much worse than it was the last few times we had layoffs.. combined. What exponentially increases that is that most of these jobs will never come back or find new jobs. Mark my words, you're going to see more and more people moving in with family, or renting small tents, etc. I am already thinking about it. I have about 500K in assets if I sell my home and stock.. and I am afraid with hopefully 25 to 30 years left to live.. that wont come close to keeping me living anything but miserable. There will be some that get lucky, invest just right or sell a company, etc.. and make big money. But money wont matter much if nobody else is able to work to spend.

Same. Tech market is in utter shambles.. in the SF Bay area they had over 350K layoffs. With that many in that area.. first employers looking for new hires can take their time and try to find the creme of the crop. Second that means for every job you get 1000s of applicants. I am literally qualified for dozens of jobs.. tick 10 out of 10 boxes. And within hours of submitting resume I get the same email (when I get one) "We're moving on". Like WTF? I didnt even get a shot at talking to someone? 20+ years high level experience in every area you need someone.. and I dont even get a shot at talking to someone. I said above, this is by far.. exponentially the worse. I believe it is the beginning of the end of lots of lucrative high paying jobs. With new jobs starting out of the gate with automation and tools that do the work that used to take humans.. and AI just making that way more likely as well.. frankly the movie/music industry got smart and fought that.. because I can tell you AI is already good enough to replace most of them.. millions of people paid good money.. it's already replacing HR, customer service, accountants, and more. I almost welcome WWIII just so we can thin the herd as awful as that sounds because I dont see this getting any better for us and I see it getitng a lot worse. I read the other day interest rates will remain high for a couple more years. I dont even know how thats going to work. People cant be paying $800 a month on a honda civic for 72 months.. nobody will buy them. Let alone the fact that the average cost of a car is 38K now.. at 9%+ interest. That's just insane. Something has to give. When a cup of fruit is 4x the price of french fries.. and we're worried about obesity and health care.. but we're charging higher for the stuff we need that nobody can afford.. if that's not writing on the wall I dont know what is.

I briefly lived in a town with a Winco. Loved that store, especially the bulk bins. But I know they run on super tight margins, and even a little spike in theft can make the model impossible. They don't even have workers do bagging because of just how tight the margins are. Similar things with Costco and the receipt checkers. It might look like a stupid job, but their business model would be sunk if a bunch of people started walking out with carts full of groceries due to no one checking to see if they actually bought those groceries.

My wife just got laid off. She has applied to a lot of jobs since, like over 100, and all have sent her a "sorry" reply because she can't even get an interview. My wife has done a lot of jobs and is more than qualified for all the jobs she has applied for. Sadly my salary can't pay everything and we are getting close to losing our only vehicle and we have 2 kids to take care of. So even if she does get a job if we lose her only way to get to work what good will it do? The US is headed for some real hard times because crooked people have been in power too long and companies are more worried about profits than employees.

He hasn’t had to fire anyone yet, thankfully. But that’s only because his employees quit. He’s had several people come in with job apps that he’s had to say no to because he’s not allowed to give more hours out. Despite desperately needing more employees. He’s a good man who genuinely cares about his employees & it’s killing him to have to cut hours. They’re already on a skeleton crew as it is. The applicants he’s had to turn down have told him that it’s the same situation everywhere. There’s no jobs.

The margins on gas is so small that there few ways to make a profit solely on fuel. The first way is sell an enormous volume. Most likely a truck stop at a major crossroads. Even in that case other items are most likely to supply the majority of your profits. Even with each truck buying hundreds of dollars worth at a time. The other possibility is a remote station with few competitors and steady traffic. In that case the mark up can be more significant. Even a few cents makes an enormous difference. But it probably won't last because the traffic will bring competitors.

You know, nobody is talking about the layoffs happening in the trucking industry either. So many trucking companies are shutting their doors every week , 2 to 3 a week on average and probably close to 50,000 truckers out of work.. and media keeps saying there is a shortage of truckers.

People need to stop borrowing, Live within your means and cut back and pay off your debts. Something the government needs to learn. I'm classified as working poor i think. Single and make about 38,000 a year before taxes. BUT I have no debt, everything is paid off. I rent because i cant afford a home (which includes all the expenses and taxes and maintenance that goes with it), but I'm debt free. Also people resorting to crime is also due to democrat controlled areas not enforcing the law and letting people get away with crime with little to no consequence. When the law isn't upheld crime will prevail no matter what the economy is doing. So of course businesses (that are in the business to make money, not be a charity) are going to pull out of places that are costing them money.

correct.. I made that point earlier in these comments .... its because places like California changed the law to not prosecute anyone who shoplifts under $900 ... criminals are taking full advantage of it... plus many blue districts have also eliminated cash bail and defunded the police... so why wouldn't a criminal want to take advantage of this?? And if you watch any of the videos of the tons of smash and grabs going on daily in places like California, Washington state, Oregon, you can clearly see its all organized crime perpetrating it.. its not just one off person sticking bread under their shirt.. its a gang of 20 or so young men, smashing windows, taking luxury items, luxury clothing, luxury handbags, apple iPhone's and iPad's.... hardly items that can be consumed to survive.

I’ve never seen so many small businesses closing before. It’s really sad and scary! The commercial landlords are really jacking up the rent as well. I guess when these retail spaces sit empty it’s just a tax write off for the landlords that own them but there can only be so many chain stores that can occupy these spaces so it’s really a lack of foresight and a ticking time bomb IMO. Plus it has a really negative impact on the neighborhoods and the community in general.

I think the property owners of that commercial space, by jacking up rent prices even if it's vacant, they use that to help value the properties when going to banks for commercial loans. It's like the "possibility" of the owner earning that money is enough for the bank to go "ok have this money" who cares if any businesses can actually afford it.
