Early in my life in Battle Creek to live in 2 different apartments in this building. As a fan of history, I read as much as I could about the Barney Tavern. I always thought it would be interesting to restore this building, however I know it would be quite expensive, and I have never seen pictures that would show how it was in the day. Thank you for sharing all of this history.

Wow fascinating. We're always wondering about these places, houses, and roads. We pass them weekly if not daily. Thank you so much!

Buddy of mine lives on Lawrence Rd between M37 and North ave. The area he lived in would heave every winter and turn into a depression that more than a few idiots would speed over to their out of control surprise. Well, that area was discovered to be filled with logs from the original builders of that road.

Does anyone know where the Dodge Brothers lived in Battle Creek? They lived here briefly before moving to Detroit (they were in Niles before that). Thanks.

I do not know where they lived, but I know where they worked. Upton & Brown Co.

Um, I’m surprised as a Michigan history person at the mispronunciation of Ypsilanti. 😂 But to be fair most Michiganders don’t pronounce Battle Creek the same as old time Battle “crik” residents do. ☺️

Ypsilanti is named after the Greek General… I’m Greek so there ya go.
