Because of Peterson I have, in one year, Fixed my whole life. First, I cleaned my room... Then I cleaned my whole home, then my 4 kids rooms and then kept it clean. Taught them to keep it clean. Then I cleaned up myself, and started working out(lost 30lbs and got strong). Then I fixed my schedule. A few weeks later I stopped smoking. Stopped drinking. I read his book again. 6 months in I enrolled at University of Arizona online to finish my degree...I finished last semeter with straight A's. (Something I have never ever done) and above all I like myself. In 1 year I fixed everything. I cant believe how much better I feel. If you feel like shit... Read his book then clean your room. 👍 hope you do good.

I reckon the reason Jordan Peterson resonates with so many people is he takes stuff that we actually know, deep down in our souls and through his articulate way of speaking brings them out into the light. Chris, G. Exactly what I thought. Many things he said I thought myself but he has articulated it so beautifully. With me, it is kind of a brief flesh of insight. With Peterson, it is a whole lecture. It is his job to expand on it, I guess, and he does it really well. A very intelligent man.

'meaning is what makes the suffering worthwhile'- Jordan peterson
@unstoppablezone49806 жыл бұрын
Lennie Huynh Suffering is the result of adding meaning to pain and chaos. Suffering is never “worthwhile.” Pain can be accepted as a part of living, it cannot be escaped. Suffering is when you make up a story that “this pain “shouldn’t be happening, is wrong, etc. “ Thus Pain is mandatory but suffering is optional. Animals experience pain but they have no story about it. Only humans suffer.

My dad says he’s a Buddhist but really throughout my life he’s been a meditating nihilist with a proclivity for depression coupled with of irrational bursts of passive rage. By about the 5:00 mark, Jordan had me tearing up because I remember what it was like growing up with this person as my father. Imagine trying to form an idea of a self and purpose as a young boy, and having a father who at every turn told you the ultimate reality is completely without you to begin with. I’m 27 now and I’m only just starting to dissociate myself from my family. I’ve been listening to Jordan’s lectures for 3 years, I can’t put into words what he’s done for me. Agreed, about ultimate meaning of pain and the benevolence of choosing to be there through the suffering with others. God Himself chose to come down and bear our suffering. He suffered cruel death by crucifixion, which is the most public and painful experience that humanity knew how to inflict. After rising from the dead, He Himself says, "I will never leave you nor forsake you". But He doesn't force this on anyone. He gives us each the choice to receive or reject His complete kindness. We can decide to not love God and not love others, to miss the symphony orchestra of life, and to choose anxiety and pain all the time because we refuse to let our Creator and Redeemer share with us His perfect redemptive benevolence.

Being a Christian, I have to believe, in a sense, in a time component to meaning. I wouldn't ask what difference will it make one million years form now, but I would and do consider there to be eternal consequence to some activities. Sure, much of what we spend our time on will be burned up at some point. Living a meaningful life is about finding and participating in those things that have eternal value; it seems to me there can be no meaning without eternity. I currently believe (this is a developing thought) that there are two aspects to meaning: hope and relationship; without hope there is only despair, and we were created for the purpose of relationship, both amongst each other and with our creator. So what do you say to the terminally suffering child - I'm with you, and this life is not the end.
@virvisquevir33206 жыл бұрын
Matt Borg - Eternity is NOW. Eternity is not only in the past and in the future horizontally, eternity is also perpendicularly NOW. We are where they cross. What you do NOW matters in eternity. The main point is that there is a hierarchy of values NOW. There is better and worse, there is going up and going down, there is more beautiful and more ugly, there is right and wrong, there is good and evil. There is a reward NOW staying true to good and not going along with evil for expediency. That's the Postmodernism Jordan often rails against: Postmodernists posit a flat nihilism because they claim we cannot find a substance of absolute, unchanging value for everyone at all times, so all is the same value. The point is, it's not a substance, it's a process, a process that transcends any scientific or any other model, the ongoing growth of consciousness, ever improving, a divine process that continues even after the earth is gobbled up by an expanding sun in a billion years.... Cheers!

At some point, most of us will ask for help understanding ourselves, only to find that it was the passage of time more than the wisdom of the Guru that helped us through a patch of particularly rough water. When I first heard Mr.Peterson I actually wept, spontaneously, the result of one well organized sentence. Some of you know, it’s hard to describe, maybe a sudden overwhelming realization that suffering might be pushed back, an epiphany that he and now we suddenly have sharp weapons of absolute truth to fight back the idiocy. This Man eases suffering in huge swaths as he goes along.

That may be the first time I ever heard someone interpret the famous Decartes quote correctly: in the context of his statement. Just like the 'God is dead' quote from Nietzsche. Makes me wonder how many other famous sayings have been passed down and passed off as de-dimensionalized caricatures of what they actually were? And who besides JP is going to tell us about it?

When he said meaning is something that makes the suffering worth it and the only response to the child in suffering is, I'm right here with you. I immediately thought of how that connects with Jesus.
