He is Maori, indigenous to Aotearoa (New Zealand) we love him here in our land of the long white cloud, conflicting stories as whether he was born in NZ or Australia, it’s been said he was born in Melbourne and it’s been said he was born in NZ and grew up on his Marae in a place called Mt Maunganui Tauranga, and then went to live in Australia with his family, he now lives back here in NZ, has been back here living for quite awhile now, he is a wonderful young man who embraces his culture, he has never forgotten his roots and who he is, I admire him greatly for how he’s embraced his culture, I’ve loved him and followed him since he won Australian Idol in 2009, each and everyone of his songs is amazing, his voice is something very unique, and powerful, that song doesn’t bring out the power of his voice though, you need to watch his song he wrote for the Ava De Vernay movie Origins, the song is called I am, it’s breathtaking, written by him and a friend in two weeks I believe, I’m pretty sure most of his songs are written by him and sometimes with other people, his family has a rare cancer gene, long story short he had to have his stomach removed due to stomach cancer in about 2017, so he basically had to learn to sing again, but luckily it didn’t effect his amazing voice, so that’s the basics of our amazing Stan, but please check out some of his other songs, oh there was also a documentary on him going through his stomach removal operation and his recovery, 😍

I agree with the above comment- I don’t feel that Michael has seen what Stan can actually do yet. As you suggest he needs to check out “I AM” from the film soundtrack for Origin. Stan recorded this song not long after he had his entire stomach removed and given the role of the diaphragm in producing vocal power this is nothing short of miraculous! He has since had 17 surgeries, he’s had his kidney and appendix removed and has suffered multiple life threatening infections and complications from his stomach removal. Yet he has the voice and spirit of an angel. Incredible.

Not Australia…..New Zealand…big difference. This is new Zealand’s culture…..we are proud of Stan. If u have time listen to I AM, He wrote it for a movie that has been released about 1 month and half…..then just released a new song about 2 weeks ago. You will love his voice.😊

Thanks Mike for reacting to this one, not many people react to this one. 03:27 That riff reminds me of another song by L.A.B called Controller you should listen too. They're very versatile with so many bangers. - In the Air - Controller - Personify - Natural - Fashion Dread - Proud Man - Ain't No Use (Live at One Love 2021) etc... Their Live Studio, Roundhead or Massey, performances are always best. As for Stan, Power Mode is an understatement. Listen to "Ultralight Beam" (Kanye West cover), "I AM" or "Don't Dream It's Over" (Crowded House cover) etc... Hope you enjoy the Music scene in NZ. There are quite a few Kiwi artists you should listen too.

And my daughter had her DNA ancestry done, me too, and my daughter is about 5% Hawaiian 1% Samoan which was a surprise, 🙂my husband is Maori Pakeha, so yes the Maori did arrive on our shores in the great Waka’s from Hawaiiki 😍
