To keep it simple: Any tackle above the shoulders is illegal, tackling in the air is illegal, tackling without the ball is illegal, tackling without arms is illegal, lifting a player into the air past 90 degrees is illegal. And also statistically rugby is safer than american football (for concussions) because there are rules to tackling and we have been taught since a young age the correct form/ way of tackling

To add on to this, NFL teams hired rugby tackling coaches to help prevent concussions when the controversy of CTE started up, Seahawks being the first team to do it when they went to the super bowl with Marshawn lynch and they had only 1/3 of concussions and since almost every team has gone through the training of cheek to cheek tackling. I played professional rugby and it’s much safer tackling techniques

Yeah here u on that one not listening to anyone that says usa football is safer. The fact is ive seem more injuries every rugby game then american football games. The nose wont get broke in football the jaw and cheek bone wont get broken. The ears wont get ripped off. And those accidental knees when people swoop in cave break jaws and cave in skulls.
@anthonyharris34902 жыл бұрын
@@brandonholsather2171 that’s a lie. American Football is a lot worse for significant injuries because the tackle technique is dreadful. Helmet’s actually contribute to CTE because it’s trapping the skull and spine, so there’s more rattling going on within. Conditioning is also a lot higher with rugby players because they can’t afford to take a down off, so less critical mistakes are made

A game of rugby is not just hits you need to see a full game, it’s 80min. Total 40mins each half. 15min half time. No other breaks apart from casualty and that’s it. It’s more stamina and strength as apposed to quick sprint to a calculated stop position, then have a break while you change your team stratagem offence or defence. You as a team member have to do both and all stratagems to win. Kicking, running, passing, tackling, line out, rucking, scrum down all team members do it all with some specialisation members thrown in.

"What is a foul in this sport?" Generally speaking, most of these tackles are legal .... they're just text-book, well-timed and really hard solid tackles. Welcome to Rugby. Because play doesn't stop with a tackle, the defensive side wants to make CRUSHING tackles, to rattle the ball carrier ... so to create opportunities to claim the ball and turnover possession. Basically, a good defence. That being said ... there is a couple of them that are a bit suspect and might get penalised. Basic tackle rules: Can't tackle a player who doesn't have the ball (Tackling without the ball ... penalty). Sometimes a player may unload the ball ie. pass or kick and possibly get tackled well afterwards (Late tackle ... penalty). No tackles above the shoulders ie. head and neck (High tackle .... penalty, possibly sent off and possibly on report). No shoulder charges ie. lead with the shoulder like a battering ram, tackler has to use his arms and "wrap" the player (penalty) ..... shoulder charges used to be legal once upon a time. No "spear tackles" ... what we call spear tackles is when a player is picked up, up ended and driven into the ground head first ... like a spear (penalty and possibly sent off). No tackling a player in the air ... a player jumps high to receive a ball that's been kicked and a tackler nails him from below, can't do that. Got to let the player land ... then tackle him (penalty). "Is Rugby more dangerous than NFL?" That debate keeps going on and on and on. Pads ... no pads. Bigger players, etc. Who hits harder? Everybody has theories ... just theories. Whatever. It's never going to get decided. Here are some facts: Every player that takes the field in Rugby TACKLES and GETS TACKLED, no matter what position you play .... EVERY player. If you don't tackle or get tackled .... you were on the bench or spectating. Does EVERY player on the field in a NFL game tackle and get tackled? When a player in Rugby gets tackled, play doesn't stop. It continues. Deliberately getting tackled is a basic tactic to get field position and set up for the next play. How often does play stop for NFL?

There was a man from America who seen people playing rugby in a park in Scotland. He loved the idea of the running with the ball in hand but was too aggressive for him. So when he took the idea back to America they added pads and helmets and more stoppages and the opportunity to throw the ball forward for someone to catch. A league started later from the popularity of it,they called it the nfl.

Thats not quite true. American football was nearly banned in the early 1900's for being to violent. 17 people died during the 1929 season, I think, a if it wasn't for president Roosevelt, they would've banned it alltogether. They added a lot more rules, then the forward pass changed the way the game was played, making it safer.

Lmao cool story. Except for the fact that football didn’t have helmets and pads when it began in the 1870s, too many deaths, injuries, and complaints (and probably lawsuits) that lead to adding protection further down the line in the 1920s. American football is rugby and soccer blended pretty much…that is fact. Just didn’t come about how you portray

Guys, I'm from Wales, which is a RUGBY COUNTRY. But I'm one of the rare guys from the UK who has watched the NFL since 1983. I love the NFL and hate when people try to compare the sports. They are both great in their own way. But when you play New Zealand (Maoris), Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga (these are Pacific Islanders). They are like going up against a rugby version of the Predator. They are the equivalent of linebackers and an offensive line that is pure muscle NOTHING ELSE. PLUS, run around the field NON-STOP for 80 minutes - Not sitting on the sideline while the offense or defense is on the field. Each sport has its discipline. But those dudes are something else.

Rugby s a great game if everybody knows the rules. It gets dangerous when players don't know the rules. Thanks for covering the sport. World Cup Rugby is the best. When it comes to concussions, research conducted by Complete Concussion Management in 2018 revealed that of all sports, men's rugby had the highest rate of concussion for people over the age of 18, with a rate of 3.0 concussions per every 1,000 players per game. Football comes in second with 2.5 concussions per every 1,000 players per game. For players under the age of 18, rugby was also number one, at 4.18, while football was third at 0.53. As far as injuries in general, a study performed by doctors Nienke W. Willegenburg, James R. Borcher, and Richard Quincy of Ohio State University in 2016 showed that collegiate rugby players suffered injuries at a rate of 15.2 per every 1,000 players per game, while collegiate football players got injured at a rate of 4.9 per every 1,000 players per game.

The greatest Rugby player of all time IMHO was given a tryout with the Oakland Raiders. His name was Jonah Lomu. He played for the All Blacks and was a force. The other things the Yanks don't get (I didn't get about their American Football) is that this stuff happens on a continual basis, it isn't set plays. The ball going to ground creates a new situation, play continues. And substitution is limited too. So these players typically go the full 80minutes of the game (two halves, with some pausing if the ball goes out of bounds, or points scored, or fouls made).

In rugby union (15 players)... the scrum, which comprises 8 players (per side) averages over 800Kg/1800 lbs... the modern game doesn't allow the two packs to come together with force, unlike in the 70's and 80''s when the two packs literally collided with huge force...

Gotta watch more than just the tackles though, it's such an impressive sport start to end.
@HKA-Rendition Жыл бұрын
I remember watching that tackle occur live at 2:03, it still sits in my subconscious.. Little brief description of rugby for those who dont know. The goal of rugby is get over the try-line where you have to physically place the ball on the ground which is then followed up by a place kick (conversion), like your American Football. The other way to get points is if the opponent violates any rules that warrant a 'penalty', where we can go for another 'place kick' (or a scrum or lineout kick) which awards 3 points as opposed to a try which is 5, followed up the conversion attempt, awarding 2 points. Tries and conversion go hand in hand but you can miss the latter, only resulting in a 5 point gain, awarded from a try and not a total of 7. Basic Info: 1. Pass the ball straight or backwards - forward is well forward and not allowed. 2. Can kick the ball from hand to gain yards into enemy territory which is a gamble as you will either lose possession or reclaim it from the kick - this is used when you cant get through a defensive line or their line and or fullback as pushed up leaving space for a kick and run to retake and make ground. 3. That thing of the players being bent down, bound together, is a 'scrum', awarded from foul play, it gives the attackers a chance to execute a set piece or move, very much like in American Football, its like your hucks, just not for every single play as only arises from foul play. The opponents can however overpower the attackers scrum and push them backwards to gain the ball back using their feet. A scrum is used to open the playing field up as less players are roaming or to gain yards close to the try-line or to result in a penalty from applying too much pressure in the initial hit, causing the opponents to collapse the scrum for example which is not allowed. 4. When players are tackled, the ball carrier needs to release the ball back into play once on the ground (why you see many of them stretch their arms out to place the ball back on their side to be picked up), and this is where the opponents pile in as they are going to try rip the ball out of your hands (theres more to it but thats the basic principle), which will result in you either giving it away or holding onto it (which is a penalty as you must not stop the ball from being played in essence), this is why the teammates pile in once someone is tackled to 'clear' and prevent the opponents from getting over the ball and causing a penalty. Teammates clearing these 'rucks' also allows the ball to become readily available for faster movement and plays. 5. When the ball is kicked out (there are other things like where the kick took place, did it bounce beforehand but thats for another time), this is a 'line-out' where more set moves are executed, like your hucks, so players try move around the line-out to confuse the opponents as the thrower is throwing for a pre-determined distance and height depending on what 'move' they are doing and this is why the opponents try mimic their movement so they can get their jumpers at the same location in the line so they can jump with the attackers to try contest the throw. 6. Player jersey numbers from 1-8 are the 'forwards', these are usually the bigger guys that participate in scrums, ruck clearing, lineouts and general defensive-line bruising, think of them are your 'Guards' in football. Then the numbers 9-15 are the 'backs', think of these are your 'Receivers'. 7. One last way to get points, is by going for drop goals which awards 3 points. This is where you can drop the ball and upon the bounce, follow with a kick and must go in-between the up rights. Perfect example of this for me anyways, would be the retired English legend Jonny Wilkinson. I think that's the general idea of rugby without diving into the specifics of each areas and the rules. LETS GO BOKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE #RWC23

most of the videos that you were watching were highlights from the Southern hemisphere(most dominating teams) that are in South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia, it was either the local teams playing each other, or a country versus another one. As a South African🇿🇦, rugby is life, it is a huge deal and yes we pack a whole stadium for it. I think Rugby has more concussions at varsity level after that it's a few concussions, and most rugby players do get brain related illnesses but later on in life, for some it comes early in your fourties.
