My first holiday abroad was to Benidorm 1962,stayed Hotel Miramar, wonderful holiday I was 17 years old. (Now 76) Flew to Valencia and then coach to Benidorm. This fabulous video brings back such lovely memories. Can’t quite recognise Hotel Miramar but I’m sure it is in the area of video. Thank you for posting. Takes me back to great times 🌞🌞

Thanks for sharing Michael, first went there in 1974, I later went back to work there in the late 1970's. I often return and recently went there in September and November 2021. Like you I have stayed in Hotel Canfali, it's not long had a complete refurb and is now 4 star... I must say the quality of your filming is superb, nicely edited and the sound editing compliments it perfectly too...

Thanks very much. Even in my days forty years ago Benidorm was too crowded for me. I preferred the Playa de San Juan. This clip is also favorite amongst nostalgic Englishmen in Britain.

This brings back some lovely memories. I went to Benidorm in summer 1962 (age 5) with my Mum and Dad and 6 of their friends. 3 hour flight from Gatwick to Valencia, then coach to Hotel Madrid in Benidorm.

Absolutely fantastic! I could have been there too at that time - I wish that I had decided to go but my first visit to Spain was 1971 and I still love both Spain and Benidorm. Thank for posting this 8mm I reminding me of what I missed. I would love to have seen it before the building started.

Exactly what I did in the same year including the flight to Valencia and the three hour coach ride to Benidorm before Alicante airport was finished building, and the motor ways too.I was young then

just think 4 years after you made this film me and my mother moved to benidorm i was only 6 grew up there till i was 18 and moved back to the uk that was a very bad idea moving back to the uk it was the happies times of my life living and working in benidorm

Oh wow this video is great! It's lovely to see what places were like before i was born. It reminds me of Summer Holiday and Carry On Abroad😊Such a different way of life back then, very authentic Spanish Town. As time goes on, everywhere is commercialised and western. I bet some places in Greece are still like this thank god. Thankyou for a lovely short holiday with you.

Great job with this film, very enjoyable. I've lived in Benidorm on two different occasions and just two months ago we spent a day there. Spain has ruined almost all it's coastline. In 1962 it must have felt like you were visiting a different culture. That was the real Spain! Now it's a synthetic version of what it was. I live in Italy and they have handled mass tourism in a different way. They didn't sell out like the Spanish to make money. Of course nothing is like it was but they have managed to maintain their identity. Just my thoughts. Thank you so much for sharing your wnderful film!

Maybe you should try costa de luz which is from the point of gibraltar all the way to the portuguese border that part is been left unspoilt no mass tourism only a few choice hotels there plus the Donana wild bird park which strenches a wide area so it prohibits large construction like the do in the med and other costas where spanish fiestas in ayamonte and the annual beach horse race in sanlucar de barremeda but of course if you compare the valencian attitude to andulusian then that is where you are mistaken valencian may have sold themselves out beacuse there land compared to andalucia is not as rich where andulucia likes to mantain traditions and be more provincial valencians as wellas the catalans like to sell them selves out to the highest bidder andulusian on the other hand would prefer to convert you to there way of thinking if not then bye bye. benidorm on the other hand is just simply a tourist factory as well as other smaller places in malaga such torremolinos etc

ilargitxo2 I live on the coast in Spain, there are still beautiful unspoilt areas of coastline. Yes, there is some ugly architecture in places but along the Valencian coast there is still beauty.

Jesus wat een verschil met nu. Vind Benidorm alleen nog leuk om wat te gaan eten. Van de ene kant maakt het me verdrietig als ik al die grote flats zie. Af en toe zie je nog in de eerste rij een vakantiehuisje staan van misschien 60 of 70 jaar geleden. Wat moet dat vroeger prachtig zijn geweest. Nu is Benidorm een grote flipperkast. Ik woon zelf in Alicante maar kom hier af en toe nog wel. Spanje is mooi.

I am ashamed to say that I am British. OK , I like a glass or two of wine, but not to get drunk. But it seems the norm, to get as drunk as you can.
