Been with my mate for 52years. We've been through perfect marriage and horrible marriage at some times in those years. Having God to lean on got us through so far.

Funny how you say "been through Horrible marriage and good marriage, I wouldn't say perfect. That's just how it is. Take the good with the bad, better or worse as the vows say.

Thanks for being so open about your past. The realization that has come to you! I felt like I needed to be a perfect Christian and I was on the roller coaster of ups and real lows. Praise God he has helped me hear HIS voice and know because of Jesus I am accepted and free!

This has helped me realize that I have behaviors that are tied to lies, I believe and trauma that have shaped my actions and responses in relationships. I see it, now I am letting God deal with this so that I can heal like this gentleman here. Thank you for the keys of wisdom you both are such a dynamic duo and blessing

Michael Jr., I have to say that you are an incredibly talented, smart and funny guy. I enjoy every piece you put out and your last analogy of the You-A and You-B is beautiful and as practical as can be. I love what you do in the realm of marriages and look forward to doing something with you in the near future. Here's a piece I'll like to add to this subject - I've listened to both interviews of these beautiful people (Elisha and Mack) and find that one thing that I didn't hear either of them talk about is if, and how, they communicated the baggage they both came into their marriage with, and if they were both patient, constructive, intentional and dedicated about helping each other surmount it (both in the giving and the receiving). You see, marriage is an institution of two imperfect people who willingly decide (You-A) never to give up on each other, and there is absolutely no shame in marriage. They both had things/feelings going on in their heads that they likely never openly revealed to each other (not by acting it out in behaviors, but by kindly and openly communicating to the other) and patient enough with each other to grow through it. Rather, they resorted to taking medication and alcohol to avoid confronting the real issues in a constructive manner and rather swept it under the carpet; lived with chronic suspicion (top killer of good relationships) and acted it in their dispositions; etc. It's sad to see that they now see these things after the demise of their beautiful marriage relationship. My heart breaks when marriages end. I'll close with this piece of communication mantra that I find powerful and might be helpful to anyone (I diligently try to live by it too) - Speak without being offensive, listen without being defensive and always leave the other person with their dignity. No one is perfect. We're all pencils in the hands of our creator. Blessings!!

Rhett Butler told Scarlet that marriage could be fun. Seeing you two host this clever pod has proven that point. Psyched to have this new venue.

This was good. It was helpful for me as a wife. My husband has addictive behaviors. My husband has been on Adderall for at least a few months now (for as far as I know). And that perspective spoken about Adderall was insightful. Along with the fact he may feel he's doing everything he can do and still feels he's not enough. Thank you all.

And that is saying goodbye to them. and it takes a lot of strength courage and a lot of amazing loving supportive family members/best friends who stand in the gap. And pray for us /support us love on us ex wives unendingly around the clock 24/7/365 during our extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely painful separation/divorce process from our ex spouses @Michael Jr.

So what I've gotten from these 2 episodes: She has trauma. Her Dad was not a part of her life. She felt unlovable. She did not get therapy for any of this. She idolized him to the point where she got mad at him if he was less than perfect at anything. He hates failing and will try really hard in anything that he is failing at. This has worked well for him over the course of his life until this marriage. He felt no matter what he did and no matter what he tried to do, she would not be happy with it. The continued rejection drove him to drink, which made the problems worse. The divorce left him homeless? Living in the back of a Subaru in the Wall Mart parking lot? No mention on what the alcohol was doing to the relationship, but that couldn't have been pretty. He also has childhood trauma he has not had therapy for. Now, blame all around sure, but I give you this. If you have a cat, at some point the cat will try to kill something and bring it home to show that it loves you and wants to provide something for you. If you do not praise that cat, they will continue and each time, they will try to bring something bigger. It does you no good to blame the cat or get angry at it. Your disapproval will only serve to push the cycle further and further. Show the cat love and praise and the cat will love you. Punish it and eventually it may run away. I think that cycle was happening at both ends of this relationship.

Did they have premarital councelling before they got married and to what extent because i'm getting the feeling(base on what i'm hearing)that these issues were never brought up or if they did, they were not adequately dealt with if not they wouldn't have found themselves in this position.(i could be wrong)
