@trueriver19508 ай бұрын
I'd instead advise people to think carefully about whether it would help or confuse them. Some folk will be confused, as you suggest; others will find the familiar user interface reassuring. Personally I'm with you on this: I would learn faster with a different interface to constantly remind me it's a different system; but people vary and after 21 years in adult ed I know that what helps some people confuses others. So never assume that what works for you is going to be best for someone else. One of the things that Windows did well at one time was to keep backwards compatibility in most of their user interface upgrades up to around Win 98 or NT. (All the old DOS era keyboard shortcuts still worked, and many still do even now, two decades on)
@goaserer8 ай бұрын
@@trueriver1950 I don't disagree with your general point, but in practice it is not a binary choice here. If you want the familiarity and know all the Windows shortcuts, probably using Windows is the right choice for you. Nothing wrong with that. If you want to try Linux there are plenty of options on that side too. There are some common ideas and symbolism but some things may also be different in the effort to be potentially better then the alternatives. But using Linux that uses parts of the Windows interface only makes second place in both categories. It may look familiar at first but two settings screens in the options are different nonetheless. It may support some but probably not all shortcuts you already know. It is a compromise in both directions, why I don't think many people will get happy with such a setup

This smells like the biggest scam/con I've ever seen. If anyone actually uses this and thinks this is legit. I pray for you. If your new to Linux please don't download or fall for this. I was so just disgusted watching this whole video because this operating system and whoever created it to me in my opinion looks like they want to steal user info or something. The presenter of this video thank you for updating us on this! Honestly if you want your operating system for Linux to look like Linux please just use a tutorial here on YT. There are plenty of creators that make videos all about customizing your OS. Also you really shouldn't be paying for access to Linux distros in my opinion I thought that was the point, they aren't about making money from their users. I mean there are some distros that do offer "premium options" and if you want that kind of access thats up to you. But you have to do your research and make sure its not fake or trying to scam you. Lastly I'll add this if you really truly desire a familiar desktop to Windows and don't want to go the customization route just use Linux Mint! Its free and already looks and feels somewhat similar user experience to Windows. But without as far as I'm aware breaking any laws or copyright. Oh its stable and has an active community. Maybe this Wubuntu creator(s) had good intentions but I wouldn't risk it. Just saying...

Since some of the features would supposedly only work for 30 days on the Free Edition, I wonder if you could set the date 31 days into the future to see if anything stops working.
@Sypaka8 ай бұрын
And it will work again, if you just reset the clock 30 days back OR just edit the file with the install date to 2060 lmao

I'd like to see if the OS's HTTPs keys are compromised, or if they have self-signed keys that are siphoning off data, unbeknownst to the end users. I assume that their update runs apt-get update/upgrade? Also, as far as Active Directory, I would *never* join a device running this OS to a serious domain.

People that make this kind of thing are missing the point. At least for me the reason to not switch to Linux full time as the one and only main OS is not the looks. I'm not saying "gee, if only Linux looked like Windows I would replace Windows and move to Linux forever!". My problem is "if only I could make everything just run out of the box!". In my last tries with Ubuntu, Mint, Debian, Pop OS, Zorin, and some other distros, I couldn't get the Nvidia drivers AND Steam to run at the same time. In most of the tests the Nvidia drivers broke the installation. In one by miracle it worked, but Steam had weird errors and refused to run. Without the Nvidia drivers, with Nouveau, the browser was usable but games ran at 1 fps, something like Pacman 256 was unplayable and super slow. To me the barrier to switch to linux is not the looks, it's that it doesn't do everything Windows does at least not easily and out of the box.

"Nothing can be less secure than Windows." That might have been true during the 9x days, but Windows NT by contrast was well regarded as a secure and reliable operating system. Once it went mainstream, i.e. XP onward, it naturally became the target of more exploits. But since Vista, the user model has been changed to run in a much more secure fashion. And I think 10 onward runs things in sandboxes that make it almost impossible for most software to touch the guts these days. I think it's pretty telling there hasn't been a major new virus/worm that we've heard about for years now.
