I have fond memories of Corel Linux. I had used Suse Linux and a Red Hat Clone called Halloween Linux before, and I had a chicken-and-egg problem with both of them: I could not access the internet without a working modem, and without internet access it was impossible to find out how to get the modem to work. So I had to dual boot Linux and Windows, use Windows to read about stuff like pppd, print out the articles, and then boot into Linux and try it until I got stuck again. It was painful. With Corel Linux, my modem worked out of the box and I could even access Windows shares over the network. That elevated Linux from a geeky, frustrating experience to a serious alternative OS for me. But it still took 10 more years to get rid of Windows (except for gaming) and another 10 years to free myself from it entirely.

maybe you found a bug in win1 as it does not format the floppy after the first try results in a disk-error XD... claim refund.. actually it's still alt+Space to access the "window"menu. I use many keys in windows as it's often faster than switching between mouse and keyboard.

Question have you looked at or were you even aware of the MoL ( MAC-on-Linux) it allowed you to launch a pseudo VM (container) of Mac OS inside of Linux on a dual boot G3, G4, or G5 machine and had a strange positive side effect. Often times applications running inside of MoL would run noticeably faster than on native Mac OS but the fans would be much louder due to Linux power management allowing the fans to ramp up much higher than Mac OS would natively allow. the easiest way to test it is using a PPC mac with both MacOS X and Yellow dog Linux (you know the distro that ported RedHat to PPC and innovated thing like yum command originally called the yellowdog update manager) from late 2003 or 2004 installed. I used it quite heavily at the time on G3 nd G4 iBooks and even dual G4 towers. Note the documentation on the site (which is still up) only mentions Mac OS 8-9 but it ran Mac OSX perfectly fine without modifying the OS to get thing like sound working like you needed to do with older versions of Ma OS 8 or 9.

She’d write short stories and print them out and show it off to all of us in this little story writing clubs thing who either just handwrote stuff or used a typewriter.

I used Corel Linux and loved it because it included Corel Word Perfect. Simple to use, graphical installer and a great word processor.

I feel like the only good thing to come out of the DS bootlegs is since they're just R4 cards, you can get a decent SD card and the firmware for it and just go about your day.
