Which kind of implies that he might have thrown it away it if he knew where it came from and that this adapter is not really necessary nor special. It seems like that the person did not really know what a microSD card reader is (microSD card reader is printed on the reader btw). And there are people that just throw away stuff they don't find useful anymore. I wrote my comment to prevent some future ewaste (even if it is not the adapter but something else).

Oh, this is funny. Brings back memories, and made me wanna play around with it again. Thanks for covering this, let alone as a stand-in for an XP anniversary video. Just as a side note, the homebrew doesn't use the generated save file at all. That's just what the R4 menu defaults to asking for any application. Later versions and alternative menus would detect homebrew as such and skip that prompt, since the rare homebrew that would want to save something would just use the actual SD filesystem instead. (Which is especially useful when it comes to emulators and savestates.)

I'm guessing how the bee movie script crashed the notepad application, is because it was trying to load the whole thing into memory and a buffer overflow occurred, possibly overflowing into a non-data area, such as the notepad program or display memory, thus corrupting it. This is a common problem in notepad programs, where they just try to shove the whole thing into memory (i.e. default notepad in Windows does this, and ends in a memory overflow error if the filesize is too large). A better way is to load one chunk at a time into a buffer (such as 512 bytes of data), which would be the viewing area. Then when you scroll, it loads the next chunk into the same memory area, therefore making indefinite file sizes possible (I think notepad++ does this. Try loading a massive file, even multiple MB, and it's almost instantaneous).

WintenDoS does that weird glitchiness because it's maxing out the amount of memory on the console. It's a problem we ran into with the MENUdo project while making themes for it, if the images were too big, or if we put too many options/animations in one page of it, we'd max out the RAM and get the same crash behavior. Very sad that we never got to release a full version of MENUdo, the web backend was feature complete and did work, I believe the source code was put up for download, and has variables to allow custom servers, but I have been lazy and haven't tried to fix it..

There's actually a similar experiment that's much older than this. Windows 3.1 on the Game Gear. You can find it at SMS Power, it's called Windows for the GG.

It's pretty incredible what the original DS was capable of for it's time really, far more than just a gameboy upgrade

I'm surprised you have working shoulder buttons on that thing, I went through 4 DS lites and they failed on each one.
