I liked the hot water flush, that chased out the old coolant nice :-D Mercury gauges, i like the visual feedback :-D I know nothing about big bikes, so i will now show my ignorance, is that constant noise a product of the timing chain rubbing on the chain tensioner? It sounds ill lol.
@risc193 жыл бұрын
It's normal for that engine mate. And yes it's the cam chain noise.
@michaelovitch3 жыл бұрын
The noise is produced by the timing system. On this bike,it's a gears only system,no chain,no belt,just gears meshed together. The problem is that they are cut straight,not helicoidal. The straight cut gears are always noisy,even if they use spring preloaded gears. like here : kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqWvYYOnqJeWppI It's typical on this bike,and they switched to a chain the year just after this one. The cool thing is the timing components last 250 000 kms,while the chain system only half that. My bmw k75 has a timing chain,but is doing the same noise : there is a counter weight on a balance shaft to balance the three cylinders engine,and the shaft is moved by a straight cut gear coupled to the cranckshaft so it's whining all the time too lol Big bikes ,small bikes,they are all as fun to learn about : )

Did You want set this bars on the same level?
@michaelovitch2 жыл бұрын
On most motorcyles you have to set the bars on the same level,so you are sure that each cylinder is sucking the same amount of air. On this engine,a v4 engine with a specific order of rotation,you don't want to set the bars at the same level. There are two cylinders wich suck air at nearly the same time, so the vacuum can't be the same on those cylinders ,because air is moving a lot in the intake plenum when they work ,so you can't have two very defined and separated vacuum pulses. those two cylinders work a little less well at sucking air than the others. This engine has 4 separated programs for the injection because of that. So ,to be sure all cylinders work the best separately,you need to set the bars on different levels, like the manual indicates. Setting the cylinders on the same level would be a mistake on a v4 engine,or a cross plane engine like on the yamaha r1. It would work poorly.

@@michaelovitch yes i know that, i have the same honda. I think that you made mistake during valve adjustment when pulled away rear camshaft setting 1st cilinder in top, it rather should be 3th cilinder? And did you clear pair valves in caps of heads? There is a lot of clearance to do. Be sure and check that all pipes from pair system under airbox are straight, special in right front where is one way valve, pipe from that. I like that you maintain this superb bike but i think that your bike engine run unevenly?
@michaelovitch2 жыл бұрын
@@pablobablo2057 The pair system must be plugged in and disabled,and pcv ports are plugged or capped ,like you said when you want to check and tune the idle with a vacuum gauge. As i know it's in good shape,the hoses are not cracked or pinched we removed the hoses for tuning the idle and blocked the pair system. The mistake during valve adjustement : Yes we are working on n3 cylinder,but we set the engine on top dead center n1 (TDC n1) It's just to be sure all the engine is set correctly. It's not really useful to use TDC n3 when working on cylinder n3 because you have always a valve wich is partially open on the other cylinder next to it while the 2 camshafts are removed. The valve springs always push one of the two camshaft up. We measured the valve gaps before loosening the cam bearings,so we just remove everything and set the timing again with only cylinder n1 as reference. It's an habit of working on cars i think,i always set the TDC on n1to align all timing marks when i replace timing belts.

Merci
@michaelovitch2 жыл бұрын

@michaelovitch2 жыл бұрын

Merci
