I absolutely love what Short said at the very end and it still holds true as of now. I miss the old days when patterns were simple, yet funky at the same time. As I would say: “Just give it a little KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid).”

Great video. Seeing that Shannon juggle live was something else...especially as a teen just learning how to keep a four-bar loop together haha. Both routines are of course classics.

"Funk prevails over everthing". Agreed💯. The first time I saw Babu do Blind Alley was at the German ITF in '98, which must have been the cleanest (and my favorite) performance of it I have seen. Nice video, it is well appreciated!

@@pashmackintosh993 I have a question. Who were some of the dopest Battle DJ's who didn't enter an ITF battle and could have? I'm just wondering if there's any stories and in particular name which springs to mind is DJ Noize.

@@Antonio-Montan that’s a great question my man. I’d have to think about that one. I did hang out with Noize several times when I was in Denmark for the ITF battles, and I didn’t really get a clear answer to that. But my take is this: Static was really really dope around that time and at his peak. Maybe Noize didn’t want to risk it to tarnish his legend status if was to loose to static. Other than that, I’d have to think about that one for a minute. I do remember desperately trying to get DJ Radar from Arizona to enter the scratching category but he just wanted to make music and not battle. I also wanted Melo-D to enter in 97, but he declined cause Babs was in the scratching category and also he wanted to focus on the team battle. I do think that over the course of time, we pretty much had the dopest DJs from every country enter. (Aside from the already established ones). But if you have more names of DJs who you think were on that level and never entered, I’d love to hear it. I’m sure there are some people i can’t come up with right this minute.

@@pashmackintosh993 Thanks, I think off the top of my head, the top level Japanese have been traditionally under represented like Akakabe, Kentaro, also from Australia, would have been nice to see Dexta compete at the top and a few individuals from the UK, Mr Thing (I know he was part of the Pervert teams) & Harry Love could have made an impact and my personal favourite would have been nice to see D Styles in the scratch category circa 97-99. I know there's lots of reasons some DJ's didn't battle for example Noize (on tour with Supernatural) and others who didn't like the stress of battling but it's the ultimate challenge being pitted against the best and judged by your peers.

@@Antonio-Montan I hear you about the Asian part of the world. We had a champ from China, I forgot his name and I don’t remember what year it was, and I think he wasn’t allowed to compete at the worlds due to visa issues. Mr. Thing didn’t want to enter cause his boys already entered in 97 and 98 and around that time, he didn’t feel on their level yet. And of course D-Styles, he was at our warehouse a lot back then as he was part of our SF family, but we tried many times bro, he never wanted to enter as he always considered himself a musician who wanted to make music and not have the issues that come with battling. I think it actually helped his widely status as one of the best scratchers to ever do it that he didn’t enter the battle circuit. This way it will always be this myth about him. And BTW: I think Dexta did enter a battle.. but I got to ask Michael, he’d know 😂🙌🏻

On the blind alley discussion. That record was a staple in DJ culture long before it was used in s battle and didn't just come out of nowhere. Aka some obscure strange record to use. It is on a ultimate breaks and beats record... It was a heavily sampled song in hip-hop and R&B. It was just one of breaks that DJs just used to cut up Like a few other songs used in this battle actually. Call them what you want, the essentials breaks, the park breaks and so on.

they downplayed Miz's routine with Blind Alley ...at the time (before Babu) it was groundbreaking. He did half the work needed to make Babu's routine imo

classic battle and both were dope. A bit unfortunate that fellow crew member (even though very qualified) was judging that battle.
