Honestly, my favourite podcasts are ones looking back at wrestling (from the 90s say), because they're just a right laugh, there isn't any "holier than thou' " or "soul searching about oneself", it's just looking back, appreciating the good and getting a laugh at the bad.

@@Bigred10101I find it weird that people act like "podcasts" is purely people talking self-importantly about life. That's just a genre. Podcast is a medium. It's like someone disliking Star Wars and saying "I really dislike movies because I really don't care for space wizards fighting with laser swords." There are so many genres and very little of the critique in this video applies to those genres. If I'm listening to BBC History Channel and some professor, who is an expert on ... mycenaean culture from about 3000 years ago talking at length about stuff and answering questions from the host... I don't really feel like "authenticity" is of any importance. And even if I don't retain half or even 10% of what was being discussed or that those two hours could have been 10 minutes... who cares. When I read a book, or watch a documentary ... it's never purely about "density of information" or the fact, that I could have just read up on it on Wikipedia or whatever. It's about enjoying the experience. Are podcasts talking about "frames" and "mindsets" by successful people mostly stupid? Sure, but why are we confusing the medium "podcast" with a genre?

Confirmation bias is rife in these podcasts. The ‘mindset bro‘ is my new favourite description of this genre.

I still think the yogpod was the best poscast ever. The episodes weren't too long and they felt natural and realistic. Just two guys talking about whatever they thought was funny. I still go back and watch them.

I crave silence and quiet. There's so much noise now even on the underground and tram, people are listening to two-way conversations while having a two-way conversation, their music videos etc., etc., with no earphones. It's too much. No human being can bear all this going on now.

The problem isn’t podcasts, it’s just finding good ones. They are free and easy to avoid. So the frustration comes from looking for a good one. The ease of making them and distributing them is the problem. Which will be an issue with all mediums since you can just type it up and put it out there.
@the0nlytrueprophet9427 ай бұрын
It’s like saying there’s too much music or something tbh. It’s just hard to find the good shit, I agree. The barrier to entry is so low there are some shocking ones to be fair though

The problem with podcasts is they take too long to deliver meaningful information. Most of the information could probably be delivered in under 10 mins.

I was shown a Huel advert featuring Steven Bartlett doing what looked like a podcast about energy drink flavours directly after this. Life and art and all that

The worst podcasts are those that should be audio only and somehow end up on KZbin.

If you want the realist interview podcast just listen to therapy gecko. It's a show where a man dressed as a gecko interviews random people to talk about random story's or ask for advice or just show up because they were incredibly stoned. Honestly the most genuine podcast I have ever listen to because even the host will just be like "you ever think about going to a real therapist for this?"

Last week I became irrationally fed up with the constant stream of overly produced thought leaders being fed to me by the Algorithm, i.e Joe Rogan, Chris Williamson, "Huberman" (come on who just refers to someone by their last name?), that diary of a CEO guy, and Mr "On Purpose" himself, Jay Shetty. Honourable mention to Rich Roll, too. I just got so freaking fed up with this entire scene of perpetually curious, hyper-caring, disingenuously empathetic, maximalist life balance enlightenment seeking KZbin gurus. It's really too contrived now. Nobody really lives their day to day life in the manner that these people (and many of their guests) are purporting to. Nobody is even TRYING to live their lives in this uber-positive reach-for-a-dream fashion 7 days a week, or even 7 days a month. We're all just busy trying to get by and when we're not doing that we're enjoying a few moments of recreational escape or having an existential crisis, or trying to maintain a hobby, just something that brings some joy. But these podcasts... It's like they've taken those moments of deep meaningful connection that you would have with a close friend every so often that you get together for a drink, and turned it into a public ritual to showcase how much virtue and meaning you can fit into a room with a table, two chairs and a bunch of affiliate visual merchandising as decoration. So I've never seen your KZbin channel before, I don't know who you are, Michael, but I want to say THANK YOU for calling these guys out because this is the only video I've seen that addresses this very specific gripe that I was experiencing last week. Of course I went to KZbin and searched things like "podcasts these days suck" and "pretentious podcasts", etc, but nothing came up. Suddenly today I am recommended your video, and I'm grateful because it proves that I wasn't imagining things. These mindfulness dudebros really are a damn scourge. Okay rant over (even though this was just a long winded thank you).

Podcasts should be renamed to "self-important people having a conversation ". Once you've listened to one of them then you've listened to them all.
