Thanks Michael. Ive been using affinity photo for about a year - mainly on an iPad. I’ve recently bought the Mac version and, although the features are the same, the workflow is completely different. I’ve found that I’ve become accustomed to all the iPad controls (Apple Pencil makes this fun to use as well) but simply struggle with the Mac version. I am interested in creating composites so am going to give this a go on my new M1 Mac. I’ve watched several of your tutorials on composites (the whale in particular was stunning) and even gone so far as to take notes - especially on the keyboard strokes - things like bracket keys to change bush size, etc. I subscribed to your channel about two weeks ago. Your style of tutoring is simply awesome. You have a calm voice and explain in a clear and concise manner, so thank you very much. I have so much to learn. One thing does puzzle me though. if you have used the iPad version, have you found that to be superior in inferior to the Mac version?

Hi and Thank you so very much for all your kind words and for your support with my channel. I do use both at the moment Ipad pro and desktop mac, I find I use the Ipad a lot for working out my Tutorials. I use the Desk top to record them and I do find the desktop version a little easier functionality wise. I think the Ipad version is great but is just missing a few things that the desktop version does a little better. One example is rotating a brush, on the desktop I can just use the arrow keys, On the Ipad you have to go into the brush setting to do this. (unless I am missing something). but i do like both and I think they can work well together. Thank again for your amazing support ....Mike

I am a video tutorial junkie and have been for about five years. If I want to learn a new task, I watch the best video tutorial I can find on the subject, and watch it while taking extensive notes so that I don't have to watch it again and can flip to my notes at a moments notice. Of all of the tutorials I have watched, this video tutorial, by far, has been the best overall that I have watched. You were very clear and understandable with your speaking instructions, and your video instructions were very easy to follow. Thank you very much.

The one thing I do not understand about this channel is WHY hasn't it got TONS more people watching it!!!!! There are a lot of people out there with "how to " channels, but this channel is the one that shows us SO much of what I think is essential information, not some extraneous process I'll never use. Thanks for an awesome channel Michael!!!!

Michael, thank you so much. I got two different images, and followed along with you step by step -- simply outstanding! I don't understand the process yet, and just what happens when you do different things. I'll watch your video again (and again and again) to school myself on what you're doing, and use different images. Just fascinating to learn as you go through it step by step -- at a nice, understandable pace. Some videos are without sound, and the clicks are so rapid, I can't begin to follow. I really appreciate your style, your clarity, and what you are teaching. Just terrific!

Thank you for the video! Is there a way to make multiple clipping masks? I've been using Photoshop for years, and the process there seems to be a great deal easier and more intuitive. Clipping masks stack automatically in Ps, for example, and you can create them by just right clicking on the layer and choosing clipping mask as an option.
@MikeAffinityTuts2 жыл бұрын
I f I understand your question, the answer is yes you can keep clipping photos to a layer and rearrange them. Sorry i don't use Photoshop so I am not failure with how its done in PS, thanks for watching

New subscriber. Great content! Can someone explain why the blk & wht adj. affect the model instead of the NY city since it is under the NY city layer. Timestamp 7:07-7:20 Thx :)
@MikeAffinityTuts2 жыл бұрын
HI Joey and welcome to the channel, in the layer stack the B&W adjustment layer in below the picture of the city and above the original picture of the woman. This will only make the woman B&W and not the city, if you move the Adjustment to the top of the layer stack it will effect everything. I hope that helps and I have explained it for you. Thanks for subscribing and supporting my channel, really glad to have you here......Mike

@Michael Wilson As I continued to work with layers and learn more, I realized that I thought the adjustment was nested under the city, thus would have affected the city😳

Thanks a lot, It's really helpful. However, I've followed all your instructions but I couldn't have the same result as you did. at 5:33, when you place the background on to the mask, I did exactly the way you did, but the background image doesn't fill the woman figure. Instead, it' placed as background image of the woman(I used more or less the same images you've used) Can you think of any reasons for this ? I've tried multiples times but can't think of any reason.

Hi Mike. With a layer mask do you move the layer so a slim vertical bar appears to the right of the icon and for a clipping mask you would wait for a horizontal bar to appear? I've watched so many videos of clipping and layering that some people seem to be contradicting explanations (i.e They say that a clipping mask uses the slim bar and the layer mask uses the horizontal bar). Thanks. Mick.

@@MikeAffinityTuts it’s hard to explain, but I did what I wanted to do. I copied persons head after using the selection tool from a different document in affinity photo, and pasted it on the my main affinity project. I don’t remember how I did it though on the iPad. I put Phil Spencer’s head on an anime character, just his head. So I used the selection tool on just his head, then copied and pasted it on a different picture. I know it’s easy to do but I have forgot how I did it the next day It was more intuitive in photoshop, I could just mask a person or object whatever and delete the unwanted background and place that person or object on my own background.
