Best discussion I have heard on color grading process and strategy as opposed to just tools. Thank you.

Possibly the best video an most accessible information on color grading that I have seen. Opens up a tremendous number of possible creative options that can be controlled by judicious application of the techniques illustrated....and using layers as needed. Thanks so much for taking the time to teach Michael!

Hi Michael, I'm glad to see your new tutorial videos. Your tutorials are very professional and explained in details which is why I love your tutorials. Thank you very much for your effort and I'll be looking forward to your future contents as well! Do you mostly use curves for color grading process or do you also use color balance adjustment?
@MichaelWoloszynowicz5 жыл бұрын
I'll use color balance as well when I want to make minor adjustments to remove color casts or something to that effect. Curves for more drastic adjustments.

Thank you for the tutorial! I’ve seen HSL clipped to curve desaturate/saturate corresponding burn/dodge layers - effective? Also; what are your thoughts on using let’s say a curve or levels adjustment with no changes and simply using a darken/lighten blend mode?

Michael please made videos about how you shoot all this beautiful photos! We all know how good you as a photographer not only a retoucher =)

Thx! Great Video. A Question: When using two Curves Layers for Dodge n Burn. One for darken and one for lighten. Do you think it makes sense to set the darken Layer to blendmode "luminosity" and the lighten layer to "normal", to prevent the increase of saturation? Until now I ´ve used a special "desaturation"- Layer (from a retouching preset), but have to blend in its effect by a mask, in the areas where dodge n burn increases the saturation. Thanks and best regards.

That's exactly what I do. I use two curve layers for dodging and burning and usually (depending on the image) have my dodge layer set to normal, and my burn layer set to luminosity. Because when the burn layer is set to normal, the shadows start becoming way too saturated.

This is a stupid question. But how do I switch my action panel to look like yours? The UI on mine doesn't display the colour of the action and is nested in groups.

Sorry if this question is silly. But my curious mind keeps wondering why is the setting line diagonal? What is the purpose or philosophy?

Before you even mentioned which one you liked in the c1 comparison i was like "I like the RGB variant better, but I know he will prefer the desaturated Luma varient" lol

James Monette haahaa to each his own. Both work fine as long as understand what’s going on.

Wait capture one can read psd files now ?? In the editing process do you recommend color grading before or after skin retouching ? Thanks
@MichaelWoloszynowicz5 жыл бұрын
Jérôme Jheelan Photography yes it has since version 10 I believe. I recommend grading at the end after your skin work.

@@MichaelWoloszynowicz good to know I always exported as tiff in order to edit in Photoshop. It's good if we can go back and forth
