As a drummer/percussionist, I've watched this multiple times, I consider it one of the great drum performances I've seen in a long time, the way he maintains the clave rhythm with his left foot is INSANE. Oh and lets not forget his incredible fellow players.

Same here! 🙋🏻♂️ I discovered this video over a decade ago and I watch it at least once a year if not more. This may seem silly but what blows my mind most is how Horacio holds the 2:3 clave on his left foot the whole way through 😅
@TungLe-en5qd15 жыл бұрын
This is the best trio Michel ever put together. Anthony's bass grooves are so solid and tight, and Horacio's polyrythm over it is just outstanding. Inhuman playing and energy.

What makes this groove especially delicious, keeps it wide open, is the lack of left foot hi-hat. El Negro has the left foot clave going the whole time, an incredible feat of independence on its own, so there is no constant hi-hat "click track," which 99% of other drummers would play on an uptempo piece like this. This makes Camilo's syncopations even more dramatic; they jump out of the groove and kick the song forward. I love when the groove locks in at 4:50!

It's hard to deny the passion and purity that flows from the craft these gentlemen have worked so hard for, to the point of turning someone who thought they never cared for latin jazz into an avid listener. I should know since I'm now learning latin jazz drums! :D You can too! So if anything don't let someones achievements discourage you from putting down your craft as I hear many say, instead let it inspire you as their mentors did for them onto your own path & dreams. All the best & God Bless your journey! :D
