Anni fa provai ad orecchio a eseguirlo, ovviamente per sfizio e per assaggiare la difficoltà tecnica. Posso dire che la difficoltà è altissima, la parte della mano sinistra vista la ripetizione estrema tende a far irrigidire il polso e poi è un ottimo studio che rafforza l'indipendenza degli arti, non ho trovato escamotage per rilassare la mano, ho utilizzato anche la stessa ditteggiatura di Petrucciani che ad un certo punto fa scivolare il medi tra il mi diesis ed il mi, un movimento per me innaturale ma per Petrucciani un movimento fluido e semplice. Ho compreso così che chi suona il jazz ha una grande volontà che deve sovrastare ogni limite che "la mano e il braccio" ti fanno presente. Credo che anche uno studio di tecnica da musicista di classica serva si ma non è sufficiente, il jazz è tutta un altra cosa. Adoro chi comunque anche da autodidatta riesca a suonare superando i limiti che incontra usando il proprio intuito e la propria volontà.

I was fortunate enough to see him play this very piece live in Caracas in 1996 or 1997. My jaw dropped. Such a unique interpretation of this standard, and yet so true to the spirit of the piece
