Great! Will Bill Davison certainly took no prisoners, Cutty Cutshall indeed and Peanuts Hucko always swinging, melodic in the extreme, the rhythm section swinging Eddie Condon on his 4 string guitar knew where the time was and Buzzy Drootin doesn't speed up in his solos keeps grooving along a great band.

for yrs I admired Satchmo & his all stars,still do ,when I discovered this group their everybit as good. Bill is on cornet where Louis was strictly trumpet & he sang. Cutty on trombone is every bit as good as Trummy Young great solos. Peanuts Hucko what can I say he was with Condon & Louis ,terrific clarinetess.. Man we just don't have pure jazz bands like that anymore, Sad to say. Glad someone posted this video.

Not to mention that before Peanuts there was Edmond Hall, who left the band of Condon to play a few years in the All-Stars of Louis.

Wild Bill Davison, Michael "Peanuts" Hucko, and Johnny Varro performed at the Los Angeles Classic Jazz Festivals (1984-1993). It was a special privilege to listen to them perform.

Been listening to Eddies bands since the 1950's, as a trombonist I love Cutty Cutshall how melodic and how much does he swing, the other muso's play OK to. (That's a joke, Jack).

Funny thing. I have this, and a few other "Goodyear" TV programs on 16mm film. About 35 years ago, long before KZbin, I offered these for sale on VHS video and promptly was warned by the Danish (!) owners of the copyright (or so they claimed) that they would sue me for everything I had if I didn't withdraw the videos immediately! And now it's here for everybody to see and to copy....

My favourite Dixieland band of all time. Wild Bill? What a lead trumpet player. How, as an ex-dixieland Trombone player, I would have loved to be next to him. No chance of course while Cutty Cutshall was around!! I'm not sure who is on Piano and Drums, but suspect the Drummer is George Wettling?? Simply great, great Jazz.

@@jazzlosophy Who is the trumpet? What is the name?
They must have told Eddie not to cut up. I have an old vinyl album "Eddie Condon's World of Jazz" which includes all these luminaries (and others). Eddie wrote the liner notes, which were hysterical. What a bunch of great musicians, who were also great characters.

Eddie Condon, sabia muito bem escolher seu "time".

Can anyone explain why Eddie played tenor (4 string) guitar?
@bassfiddlesteve4 жыл бұрын
He started on plectrum banjo, so when he switched to guitar he got a four-string tenor and tuned it the same way (CGBD). He was only interested in playing rhythm, no solos.
