It's been a long while since Italy produced a good artist--not for lack of trying. Looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer.

Am I the only person who finds the excessively generous comments made by "professional critics" ( ass kissers) to be annoying? You show the work and I will decide for myself how it rates.

it's the art world... there have always been critics, historians yada yada yada,..but they would not have anything to say with out the art and artist...some artist can be as equally pretentious / revolting...

There was a singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan He sung this line Does God Exist Them there was another singer Ghulam Ali He sang the same line in different manner "Ham hain toh khuda bhi hai" Above all there was a poet Dr. Allama Iqbal He also wrote the same concept in different way "Bandon ko sikhata hai adaab e khudawandi" Now you have the answer Does God Exist Yes

Art reps probably fund this show to create a stir to sell this stuff. The people being interviewed are so serious like this is the greatest shit on earth. Great narrator though

1)Does God exist? The piece doesn't say what he says. 2) Third heaven? Why use a worn out and sorry metaphor if you're trying to progress humanity. 3) How does the painting from the 70's have a laptop?

Shaun, you are all over this thread with your capital letters. You don't like Pistoletto's work, we get it. Why not find an artist you do like and add some joyful comments to the internet instead of abusing people who like something which you do not. You are not going to change anybody's mind, you simply make yourself appear obsessive and sad.

Couple of responses that I thought of. Not trying to change your mind or anything, just giving a perspective. 1. I think the piece is meant to seem like that at first, but I think it actually does line up with what he says. The first instinct is to think that the artist is saying he is God, and I think that's intentional. But thinking about what he said about "I exist, and I create God" the meaning seems to be almost analogous to the Descartes statement "I think, therefore I am." I don't know that there's a proverbial man in the sky, but I know that I'm here, and that I have the power to believe in Him, and through that belief I can create a sense of Him that serves to me as Him. Personally, I think that also links the piece to the rest of the space, where the power given to the people who occupied it was sustained by a belief that they had/deserved that power. 2. Symbols are powerful, and a good one can have impact, even if it appears to be a "worn-out" one. A single looping line is not going to change the fabric of humanity, but the causes and ideals it represents can cause actions that do. Two crossed lines can't do anything on their own, but given context and action, they can offer salvation, deliver life-saving medicine, etc. 3. Don't have much here, maybe something in attribution went wrong? Or maybe it was a mock-up that the artist saw and it just turned out to look like a more recent thing? I'm not sure.
