My husband and I did a date night jar at our wedding. We put those thick, almost tongue suppressor sized, popsicle sticks in a jar and asked our guests to write date night ideas on them! We still use those sticks almost 10 years later. (Our favorite dates from those sticks, we put back in the jar to continue being able to pick them!)

My first marriage was horrible. But my second marriage, I married my best friend. We had a small outdoor wedding on our farm. People sat on hay bales. My friend's husband played the theme song to the Princess Bride on his guitar and another friend made our cake and cooked the food for our supper. We bought all the groceries ourselves. My dress was 90 dollars. It was the most beautiful wedding and we didn't spend much at all. You don't have to have expensive stuff for your wedding for it to be special. It's already special because you're marrying your best friend and life partner. I'm excited for you and Jordy to make it special for yourselves. I love all your ideas. Main thing is, have fun.

I did ALL the things when I got married. I spent a lot of money and didn't include much that was really personal, very traditional. IF I could do my wedding again, I would scale back and do more unconventional things. I firmly believe that spending less money and making things more about what YOU want can absolutely go hand-in-hand. Looking forward to as much wedding content as you're willing to share!

I love this! I've never been married myself, but have planned over 200 weddings as a job. My #1 piece of advise is to do what feels like 'you' as a couple - there are no rules that you have to follow. Personally I wouldn't have a bridal party (the whole concept is so strange to me!) and I would keep things really intimate. Please keep sharing wedding videos, I love this so much!

I love that you are going against the norm and doing what YOU want. I got married at 30 and I was so over the "mandatory" things that people tried to tell me I had to have. We did not do a first dance. First, the power went out and second we are both so awkward and it would have been zero fun. We did an early wedding (10:30am) and brunch as the food. So good! No bouquet toss, no garter toss. We did cut the cake and feed it to each other only because my mom told me the tradition behind that was a way to say I will feed you and take care of you even when you can't do it yourself. We did not do a wedding favor. I usually throw away or never look at the tons of favors I've been given, so why do it? We are not super partiers, so the focus was on the ceremony, eating, then leaving. The wedding started at 10:30am and we were gone by 1:15pm. The best man even returned the suits the same day as the wedding 😂 we did all of this because it's what WE wanted

You don’t have to say differently as a comparison. You can say theses are the things we are doing for our wedding. It’s new it’s fresh, it’s your experience with your forever love. Don’t have to give it a label to make others feel comfortable. It’s your day no one else’s! Just enjoy your time like it’s the first time . For you and Jordy it is the first time . Thinking of the past will only tarnish this experience for you both. Just the best advice I could give. Treat this wedding like it’s your first with no judgement or expectations from others . They don’t get a say. Enjoy the wedding with your forever love! ❤

I have an awesome wedding idea for you! This was something that my baby sister and her husband did at their wedding and it was such a cool idea and gave them years of enjoyment. They had these full size empty wine bottles each labeled with a different year like 1st year, 2nd year, ect. and little papers and pencils set out in front of them with a sign instructing people to write notes, advice, ect to the couples for the different years of marriage. On their 1st anniversary, they broke the 1st year bottle open and got to read all the notes and stuff, and that was something fun that they got to do on their anniversary every year for like the first 5 years of their marriage. (Lol, in one of the notes I wrote to them, I so called it on when they would have their first kid. 🤣 My sister got such a kick out of that when she got to that note.)

Give us all the wedding content you feel comfortable sharing. I'd tag along happily. I think your wedding sounds fun and authentic. I have always attended more formal weddings, which are a lot of work even for guests, in my opinion. Here in Italy it is custom to have an afterparty, at the same venue, where things get much more informal, but the majority of the day is exhausting, to me.
@charlestonchime123 Жыл бұрын
Such a great video. I think there is such a delicate balance. When I was married 21 years ago, I was able to have what I wanted, do what I wanted, and still consider guests. I chose a venue close to the church for the guests. Maybe not what I would have wanted necessarily, but the ceremony (in the church) was all about me and my husband. The reception I geared toward the guests. However, when a family member of mine (now divorced) married his wife, she was so ridiculously all about "her" that the bridesmaids had no choice in the gown, and she even wanted to pick out our shoes! - and she wanted to dictate what color my mom could and could not wear. She also ONLY had a gluten-free shower (what about the 100 guests that don't want to eat gluten-free everything?) AND a gluten-free only cake. Now, if you're not gluten-free, that is a taste you have to get used to, and to be honest, most people who are not gluten-free do not enjoy a gluten-free cake. In other words, she had the mentality that the wedding was all about her, and not her guests, and the food was terrible. She also chose a venue that was 1.5 hours away from the church because she liked it. I do think there is a way to make things 'your way' and memorable and enjoy the day, and still consider your guests. I was very happy (and am still happily married) with my wedding and when it came to the ceremony, it was stunning. A fall evening candlelit ceremony --- and the reception, I tried to consider my guests with food, cake, and location. We had many people tell us it was the most beautiful wedding they had ever been to. And it didn't cost a fortune. It was the details, and the two-way street of bride/groom and guests! You have wisdom beyond your years. What a beautiful wedding this will be! =)

I’m married to my best friend in the entire world and we just did a small semi-elopement in winter where we had us and only 6 guests who knew, then a friend who was the minister and another friend was the photographer, so with us there were only 10 people present. We had a lovely ceremony and then a moody Christmas/winter luncheon, and it snowed. And we announced it after. And I loved EVERYTHING about that day, but occasionally I do feel a little sad that we didn’t do a full huge spectacle of a wedding lol. Because we get told as brides so often that that’s what you’re “supposed” to do. But then I remember how special the day was because of how extremely intentional every detail was (and how because it was small, we were able to provide amazing elevated food, enjoy the company of the only guests we really wanted there in the first place, and have everything exactly how we wanted it) and I no longer feel any fomo lol, because as you said, spending thousands to please other people is indeed dumb 😂 As a recovering people pleaser myself, snaps to you for your mentality and I know your day will be so special and really fun for you AND your guests ❤❤

I love the food by the hour concept. Also when it comes to alcohol, frankly people can pregame before the wedding if they just can’t bothered to be sober during the festivities. I don’t really drink except occasionally during social situations so I’ve never understood the need people have to be smashed all the time.

But on the flip side, they’re going to be drinking at the after party, and then what? All have to drive somewhere? Makes no sense.

My husband and I paid for our wedding as well with no help from either side, we had the same attitude as you as not thinking of the guest experience, and more of what we wanted to do or cut out. I agree! I think of it this way, I loathe the saying the wedding is about the guests. It’s not. The wedding is happening because of you and if you wanted to elope or just go to the jp, it’s still all snot you. You can have a wedding without guests, you can’t have one without the bride and groom.

How refreshing to see a bride and groom decide on their own wedding. My first wedding was controlled by my parents, ( coz they paid for it) guests I didn’t even know were there and friends omitted because of budget. My second wedding 15 years later was totally different, all planned and paid for by ourselves and soooooo much more enjoyable!! A friend I have did a recreation photo of when she was a lot younger with parents and sister… she sitting on dads lap and sister holding mums hand, everyone loved it!!! Maybe an idea would be to have a couple of surf boards there so you and Jordy could have a photo in front. Our eldest daughter said to her husband to wear flip flops with his suit, it looked so good and was more him being a surfer too. Definitely definitely more wedding content!!!!!!

I think the only way to have something be "timeless" is having a vintage theme and then, still, it's not really timeless but represents a different time 😄 Even simple styles look dated after a few years, just a little bit later than elaborated styles. For my wedding last year, I skipped all flowers/vases/etc. and had nerd stuff as decoration. It represented me and my husband and I'm sure I will never regret it because our wedding style wasn't defined by what's trendy for weddings right now but what we have loved for decades 😀

Only family and the closes of friends in a renovated barn. At first the family was not all aboard, but we insisted that this is what we want and in the end everybody fad a great time. Even after one year they keep talking about how much fun they had. Do not stress about pleasing everybody. I decided on a more traditional wedding because I live far from my friends and family and I want to have a day full of fun memories to celebrate with everyone we love, and I think I would regret it if I didn’t it. But there are some traditional elements we are cutting - no bridal party, no cake (we’ll have a cookie table), no registry, no bouqet toss, etc. But we’ll still have catering, a bar, and DJ.

Michel, this is about two people that fell in love and have decided to spend their lives together. Have this day the way you both want it, this is about Michel and Jordy. I thank you for sharing little tidbits with us about your big day, I am sure many out there feel like myself, we are invested in you, we have prayed for you and are grateful to be included in whatever way you both feel comfortable sharing. Enjoy this very precious time. The wedding to my husband now, was simple. Out on the beach in the sand, a few friends, my daughter. And then we went to Olive Garden. Olive Garden was our first date, I fell off the motorcycle there on our first date, that is where we had our first real meal together, we got engaged there (surprising me is not a accurate statement), so many of the important things in our lives has happened there. Every year on our Anniversary we go to Olive Garden. May not be someone else's choice, but that was what we wanted. We went away for one night, was in church the next morning, and back to work that Monday. 12 years later we have a standing date night which is Friday. Most of the time we grab something to eat and go to the beach and watch the boats come in and go out, the beach is one of our favorite places. If we miss Friday night we do two the next week. I am so very happy for you and Jordy, and wish you both a lifetime of happiness and blessings.

LOVE breaking the rules. I fully support this, as someone who also broke a lot of rules when I got married a year ago 😁 Red wedding dress. We wrote the entire ceremony ourselves. Our friend officiated. No cake cutting. Candy table. Only people we knew. Everyone we talked to after said the entire experience was so US, and I have no doubt yours will be perfect for you both and totally amazing 😊

This is so fun!! I'm divorced and not dating, but never had a wedding (got married at the courthouse) - so I'm loving this! Also, I'm glad you're not hung up on the wedding looking dated, when you look back a few years from now it will probably look dated - but in DECADES that will be charming ❤️

So happy to see the wedding content. We paid for our wedding too. It was beautiful and all things us. Weddings are for the bride and groom along with the guests. Enjoy every moment of it! Excited for you both! ❤❤

I absolutely love the idea of an after-party. Just to keep the celebration going but not in such a formal setting, so people can go when they want to. Plus, if it's someone else's house you guys don't have to stay longer than you want to.

Oh so much! Yes! I'm 100% agree with the activity list. How you thoughtfully did the food and drinks. Just everything is impeccable. I know everyone will enjoy it so much more when it's casual. Comfortable yet. Beautiful! I know I would rather than , watch the performer and cut the cake then cue the music, money dance! Lol
