Remarkably musical, deeply sensitive playing. She grasps and makes us hear the subtle architecture of the Barcarole. Likewise, her rendition of op. 48 no. 1 is beautifully sculpted and judiciously paced, with the middle section intense but not rushed. I'd love to see her go on to the final round.

Competitions in my opinion are not the ideal situations to spread out the very soul but this wonderfull lady played like she was in her workshop.

Tecnica e sensibilità musicale ai massimi livelli per una giovane artista come Michelle. Complimenti alla ragazza, ai suoi insegnanti ed ai genitori per averla sostenuta in un cosí impegnativo percorso di valorizzazione del suo talento.

Remarkable performance all around! One of the best young pianists around! It's a shame that this Steinway D lacked some of the Steinway-typical brilliance. Better tuning could have elevated this performance to a whole new level.

A perfect rendition from beginning to end! A deep and introspective understanding and interpretation of all pieces. I hope to see her in the finals.

She made it to stage 3, but sadly not the finals.

In 2015, she made it to stage 2, and in 2021, she made it to stage 3, which is quite an improvement. She also used Yamaha in 2015, and Steinway 479 in 2021.

Candotti's participation along with a few more, raised the artistic level of this edition of the competition, her finished understanding of Chopin's music is the best I have heard, that she has not been in the final is another point. dark and highly debatable of this edition of the competition.

how is the judging based on? do they favor musicality or artistry or technique more?
@javiertrabajo9438
@javiertrabajo9438 Жыл бұрын
@@bludika The big problem with these contests is that there is no musicologically developed methodology to clearly determine the degree of truth of an interpretation, as the repetition of a paradigm of execution of a certain repertoire is confused with the act of interpreting the composer's text. Therefore, unfortunately, only the measurable physical ability to master the instrument is taken into account, and these contests become competitions of physical skill and not of musical interpretation.
@bludika
@bludika Жыл бұрын
@@javiertrabajo9438 i see. I think it's really subjective honestly. To me, a lot of them play very similarly, with a very few noticeably different interpretations, but funny thing is, someone who plays very unique or noticeably different, they don't really make it through that far, so I don't how the judging is based on more, is it more about technical skills than musicality
@javiertrabajo9438
@javiertrabajo9438 Жыл бұрын
@@bludika Valdimir Ashkenazy himself, who was a judge in the contest, assured that it was so difficult to justify the interpretative and artistic quality of the participants that everything was reduced to qualifying based on who best mastered the instrument.In my case, I found in that contest that Kobayashi and Candotti were the ones who came closest to or achieved the most representative versions of Chopin's style, taking tradition into account. the parameters of sound quality, phrasing, color, rubato etc, and the rest, listening to both gave me the feeling that they were the only ones who had a clear vision of what it meant to interpret Chopin, but of course there are no methodological devices to test irrefutably something like that, and in fact the most technically brilliant won. In short, it is a complex problem of these contests in all artistic areas, exactly the same thing happens in dance.

Is it me or has anyone else noticed that the pianos don't seem quite tuned? The pianos aren't quite singing enough for me.
@Thiago-px9ev
@Thiago-px9ev 3 жыл бұрын
All of them are slighty out of tune, which isn't a surprise since they need to handle some serious playing, some of them several times in a row. Apart of it, Michelle's choice was this poorly voiced Steinway 479. The Steinway 300 sounds better.

Unfortunately it's the way of things. As Krystian Zimerman once remarked, that which is not seen is perceived not to exist. There is a dire shortage of top technicians and those there are get snapped up by the most busy pianists. I have a Steinway model D at home which is a remarkable instrument but it's proven near impossible to get it taken care of to the required standard. Tuning and voicing, also whether the c pedal is properly regulated, are inextricably linked with the illusion of singing tone. However the Warsaw Philharmonic Hall is perhaps one of the very best halls where the sound on stage is remarkably luminescent and full of clarity and this makes for a wonderful experience for the pianist.

Candotti is a much more convincing Chopin player than Argerich without a doubt, clearly she does not have Argerich's technical skills, but musically she is much more interesting.
