I’m from Chicago and I can tell that both Emem and Ike both live in hot neighborhoods. He probably pays $2k+ for that small apartment. He just knew where her condo was along the river was going to be more expensive… he can’t deal with her having more than him and it shows.

Most of the people on the show wouldn’t have been selected based on those criteria lol. Also, does the home ownership status of men make that much of a difference in a marriage being successful? To me at least it seems like a unnecessary double standard for men if women like Karla can have stuff in storage not have a solid living arrangement

@grantbrown6149 I think it's possible to find people who fit this list. Maybe they would have fewer couples or ladies who aren't bikini bods (not obese either) and a few other things. But it's not entirely impossible. If the average woman in America is a size 14, why are all women picked a size 4/6? When you're marrying a stranger, extra security helps to relieve anxiety. Owning your own place does make a difference. Of the couples that are still together now, I can think of 4 where the men were already homeowners when they met. Women can own homes too, absolutely, but isn't it men who tell us they don't care what women own? Women are the ones who crave security. Karla should never have been chosen, her fluffy career description alone should've disqualified before the storage unit. I said that in a separate comment.

Emem is not a dr. She is PA(physician assistant). A PA requires a college degree plus 2 years post college education and practical experience. A Dr. on the other hand requires a college degree, 4 years of medical school, 4-5 years residency in a specialty plus many drs. go on to acquire further “fellowships” for more specific specialties. Basically when a doctor graduates high school she at minimum is halfway through her formal education and training. Drs. generally have 13 more years before they actually practice as a fully certified doctor in the chosen specialty. Being a PA is a very impressive career choice, and provides a great income, but is not a doctor. A doctor’s income and knowledge, far surpasses a PA or a nurse practitioner.

I'm sure she's proudly American, but her personality is obviously influenced by life in an immigrant parent home. It takes a specific personality to understand and love that. She will always feel the need to juggle the two worlds, never allowing one to clash with the other. But with the right person, both characters can coexist at the same time.
