She's a delight. I love that she understands the obstacles minority actors face starting in Hollywood but she's not bitter about it. She's just keeping on and she appears very grateful for the awards she's been given. And as someone who's watched her from her Super Cop's days, I'm happy to see her flourishing in the Western movie industry as well.

I think because Michelle is from Asia, she doesn’t have a victim mentality or sense of entitlement. She didn’t grow up dealing with systemic racism issues in the US. Don’t get me wrong, she didn’t have a easy ride either - she was the only female action hero actress in male denominated Hong Kong based industry. She’s resilient and is a pioneer. I admire her grace immensely. My point is I think it takes a different perspective to drive change and she had that being an “outsider”. I am routing for her at Oscar’s!

She is a pioneer and an icon. She stands on the shoulders of the many other east asian american actors and actresses that came before and ultimately made and sacraficed so much for Hollywood and the American cinema industry on screen even though they were never given even an ounce of respect or dignity that they deserved and earned. I remember the great Anna may wong and the actor sekakawa during the 1910 and 1920s film era that were the face of cinema and Hollywood at the time and were not afforded opportunities that they sought and went in and out of Hollywood for decades in hopes of that greater destiny that they so well deserved at s time when cinema and Hollywood was all white and no one there was there to offer them a single ounce of support or voice of courage and moral clarity of standing up for what is right

And, of course, he did get an Oscar nomination later in life for "Bridge on the River Kwai." I saw him in an episode of an american western not too long ago (maybe "Wagon Train") and he was superb.

I grew up loving the asian american actors I saw on screen even tho they did not always get the roles they deserved, but sometimes they prevailed just the same. Mioshi Umecki (Oscar winner), James Shigeta, Mako, James Hong, Benson Fong, Victor Sen-Yung, Keye Luke, Soon Taik Oh, George Takei, Robert Ito, and so many others who gave memorable performances despite the lack of diversity in casting. Forgive any misspelled names, I did that from memory.

This movie is one of a kind and these performances are spectacular! All movies (up to now) focuses on one genre or maybe two, but this movie has multiple genres and all these actor had to play different roles in one movie. It has romance, its spy fy, its comedy, its action, its thrilling and its adventure coupled with the desire for love and acceptance we can all relate to and how many movies in existence has all that? They deserve the nominations both on a talent level, but also as a team of actors and directors/creators that have bonded and supported each other.

When Michelle speaks about ordinary women being extraordinary, I am reminded of the remarkable Toisanese grandmother in CA, whom was attacked by a homeless person, half her age, during the covid hate crisis. This feisty lady fought back, + with others, subdued the assailant. (Her grandson started a Go Fund Me Campaign for her injuries, sustained from the unprovoked attack; they raised over $1 M, of which, some was donated back to her community, as requested by the heroic grandmother.)

This is just silly. Cate gave an astounding performance in a very demanding role. She is the best actress of her generation, and she just gave probably the best performance of her career so far.
