If you don't have Sb = 25.5m, how can you find value for the Sb ? Do you need to take account of the nominal weight of the cable ?

G'day Michael, Great explanation. I have a problem where i know the span, but i need to find the length of the conductor and the sag of the line. This is for a Specialist Maths Investigation. Is there any way to find these out? Your reply will be much appreciated!

Typically the required sag is determined by the tension allowed on the cable. The greater the sag, the smaller the tension. See the videos in this playlist starting with # 17 on the catenary

@@MichelvanBiezen G'day Michael, appreciate the reply. Is the tension determined by the mass of the cable? The context of my problem is that I am doing a Year 12 investigation that involves 3D vector maths. I have modelled a valley with 2 ridgelines, and the span of the 2 ridgelines is 6.10m. The issue with this is that, I don't have a lot of known values. I would appreciate if we could do a Zoom call where we could discuss values and equations needed. I have attemped to try and solve by watching your videos, but unfortunately the similarity of the contexts of the problems are minimal. Would love to collab with you soon!

Where was the material specs taken into account? How can we add a constant tension?

Dear Sir.what would be the ends conection type in the electric transmission pole? How to calculate the effective length in the electric pole?

Hello, I curious about the Sb=25.5m. how do you determine there is additional of 0.5m in that cable? your comment is much appreciated.

In this problem it is a "given". And you are asked to find the sag. In other examples you may be given the sag and asked to find Sb.

Is there a valid equation for sag as h=(wl^2)/8(To)^4?

We sometimes use equations that approximate the shape. They are not exact, but sometimes serve the purpose of obtaining a good estimate.
