I would expect Michigan to get 14 - 16 wins next year. Michigan should start getting solid recruits and make the Sweet 16 and probably the Final Four in the next 5 years. No more swinging at opposing coaches and blaming it on your upbringing. No more toxic program environment. An adult is in charge now.

Saying Michigan hired him because they don't want someone who will "take away some of the spotlight from football...but nothing to be done at the expense of what the football program is trying to do" is such contrived garbage. It just shows how little you know about the University of Michigan. Excellence is expected from all the programs, athletic and academic alike. The bar is high for everyone, basketball included. Yes, the football program is the most prominent program at the school. But Michigan wanted the best person available for the basketball job. That was the only consideration, and they got their guy. Don't believe this, ask John Beilein.
@Jimbo2497 ай бұрын
Just commented the exact same thing. I have no idea who this "reporter" is but when he started saying that I had to turn off the video. That is something somebody with absolutely no knowledge of Michigan athletics would think. Michigan is a very historic basketball program. They arent a blue blood like they are in football, but to pretend that a top 20 basketball program historically is so flippant about their basketball program is laughable.
@mic12407 ай бұрын
@@Jimbo249Purdue and MSU have been the dominant BIG schools for decades, think cause both don’t have revolving door of coaches. Do agree U of M is a “football school” but good getting a coach to hope to make them respectable again in hoops good. (Crisler is tiny compared to most BIG arenas and doesn’t attract the passion of IU, Purdue, MSUs and continual sellouts even over holiday breaks sans students). Conference is better if U of M can be competitive again.

You state things like they are facts. It is simply opinion. I don’t think Louisville is a better job than Michigan in basketball. Michigan has some really strong history in basketball. And with their finances and big alumni support, I think Dusty May chose correctly.
I like the hire and agree with most these guys had to say except expectations.We've losta top 30 recruit, Mr Basketball waiting to decide after new HC announcement and we've lost 4 players to the portal SO FAR and two graduates plus a starter with one year of eligibility to decided still. Its a TOTAL rebuild and while it would be nice to be back in the tournament in year 3...we forget what the great John Belien did and how long it took him after not such a bad Tommy Ammaker. Belien made it in year 3 but didn't return until year 5 and was actually on the hot seat as they got bounced 1st round in that 5th year to a 14 seed.

@SeshatPG827 ай бұрын
Depends on how many can get in and then don't mind that very few of their credits transfer. No slight on FAU players; it's just that the admissions dept. has been a major challenge to the MBB program in this transfer portal era in particular. On the football side, Myles Hinton transferred from Stanford and even he had difficulty getting credits to transfer.

These dudes really have no idea what they are talking about. Yes, Michigan is a football first school but the gap between the two isn't nearly as large as these guys seem to think it is. Michigan basketball under Beilein was more enjoyable than the football team for an entire decade. Pretending that they don't want the basketball program to succeed "at the expense of what the football program is trying to do" sounds like something an AI bot would write. Just because they won a national championship in football doesn't mean they don't also care deeply about their basketball program. This is a team with 2 national championship game appearances in the last 11 years.
