Lighten up! Don't be a purist. Even Mantovani released an album on the Beatles, Handel's Messiah has been performed in rock style......

I went to UM-Flint, and even I know that's not how "Michigan" is pronounced.

I will assume you are complaining of the “Meechigan” in Varisty, which was written during Michigan’s time outside of the Big Ten. Varsity was written in 1911 to replace to now outdated “champions of the West” seeing as how Michigan was no longer in the Western Conference. Fielding Yost was the coach at this time, and everyone knew the Old Man held onto his native West Virginian accent, referring to Michigan as “Meechigan.” This lovingly translated over to the lyrics of this song and remains part of Michigan athletic lore to this day (Bob Ufer often said Meechigan in his broadcasts and you can still hear it with some of the ESPN guys).

Eh - the style is too snooty. Varsity and The Victors are meant to be sung with gusto, not with this much precision and over-diction.

It's perfect. The precision is what makes it.

Spend one day with these guys and you’ll realize they’re the farthest thing from snooty that exists
