Michigan-Ohio State's 10 Year War

The rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State is perhaps the greatest in sports. And it perhaps hit it's peak during the ten year war which saw Woody Hayes and Bo Schembechler face each other 10 times with each game having Big Ten and National Championship implications. A time of pure hatred and paranoia between the two that ended with Bo leading 5-4-1.

The 2010s should be considered the opposite of the 10 year war. 10 years of boring football sums it up pretty well. Ohio state had won 17/19 before Michigan won the last 4. This has become an extremely overrated rivalry that people don’t care about as much as Ohio State and Michigan fans think we do. OU-Texas is a much better rivalry. Much more entertaining and much more unpredictable.

Jim Smith scored that 1975 touchdown right in front of me. Tough loss, but 76 was great despite Purdue and the Rose Bowl. I was down there for the 70 to 14 beating of Navy and was in one of the 100 or so highschool bands for Band Day the following week when they beat Wake 31 to 0. I was also at the 1991 game when Desmond Howard did the Heisman pose. I'm 2 and 0 in Rose Bowls, having gone out to see Michigan and Leroy Hoard best USC in 1989 and Tyrone Weatley win a revenge Rose Bowl against Washington in 1993.

Rivalry definitely is a pattern of winning and losing in decade increments. Lots of people feel Cooper has been resurrected for the Day era. Michigan upset Cooper s team when the bucks were #1 and #2. 3 times. We’re seeing that pattern all over again! Great vid btw. Great taste in music too. Love the Mozart!

As an outsider, what about the 17/19 games Ohio state just won? Sure Michigan won 4 in a row but that’s nothing compared to 17/19. If Michigan didn’t win the last 4 “the game” would’ve barely been a rivalry anymore. Truly an overrated rivalry that Michigan is saving from being completely 1 sided this decade.

The things they didn't mention were that Bo Schembechler was a coach under Woody Hayes at one time. So as soon as he became Michigan head coach that's how the Rivalry started. Woody was not happy. And I heard the install the video where would he actually said those things about not being able to go for three points so he went for two even though they were leading
