Alabama fan here and I absolutely loved watching this and I have nothing but respect for Coach Bo in my opinion his name should be mentioned along side of Bear and Woody if the Big10 wasn’t screwing with the football teams he probably would have had at least two National championships and a few plays went his way he would have had more than that. I’m looking forward to the Alabama vs Michigan game in the Rose Bowl this year.

I'm a lifelong ND fan but I have sooo much respect for Coach BO Schembechler...It takes me back to a time when college coaches, like BO, turned out tough tough teams no doubt about it...Michigan was always a thorn in ND's side and you knew you were in for a battle when Coach Schembechler brought his boys to play....Sad to see this era fizzle away, have so much respect for him and what he stood for and truth be told I hate Michigan (that means they beat ND regularly thus why else would I hate them) but watching this, even though I always did, reinforces why I have so much respect for BO....I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why he had such bad luck in that Great Classic...Nonetheless I really miss coaches like BO, they are a dying breed and nothing but respect for him again, God Bless BO and FUCK that team down south!!!!!!!
@johnboehmer66833 жыл бұрын
Of course it had something to do with the fact that it was always in essence a home game for the pac-10 team in the Rose Bowl against Michigan. Michigan did just fine against pac-10 teams overall, and especially playing them at home, in regular season games. I think also it may have something to do with Schembechler's character, that he was wound a little too tight. This is not conducive to playing well in a high intensity, pressure-packed game like the Rose Bowl. I was really glad to see him finally win it, I think it was '79, right? And he did fare better in bowl games overall in the 80s than he had previously. I think with age came wisdom, and he may have dialed back some of that intensity, allowing his teams to play a little looser, more effectively.

@@bradleyholt9805 You really think the 1100 mile difference in travel distance between the two to get to Pasadena makes no difference? In 1980? If you listen to the roar of the crowd for Washington in that game vs. Michigan, and accept the inarguable fact that locals in California going to the game would overwhelmingly be there to root for Washington, you'd then realize the truth of the matter... pac 10 teams always had a decided home field vadvantage in the Rose Bowl.

Bo gives a good explanation for the 1973 situation. The back to back Rose Bowl rule had been changed, though. Ohio State came in at #1 and never trailed in that game so the AD's got it right.
@charliebabbitt33144 жыл бұрын
One more thing, you see Y he had success against OSU...In the beginning of this video he said his entire program was geared towards beating OSU...Everything they did was to beat them..He emphasized it, stressed it, and passed it on to his players...I thought Coach Harbaugh would also do the same...? Now Michigan was screwed in their 1st meeting from that bad spot so who knows what happens after that but its just odd how OSU has dominated like they have in this rivalry and I'm sick of it for I always loved those great matchups..I don't know what else to say....

What made Bo special was how he altered his playing style based on talent. He went from pro-set/pro-I to wishbone to power I to regular I to pro set during his years at A2. That 1972 Rose Bowl Game was really tough. Michigan would have still been #3 or #4 if they had held on to beat Stanford, but Nebraska and Oklahoma would have still finished in front of UM that year. The best decision Bo ever made was pulling out of the open Vanderbilt coaching job in December of 1966 before he was doomed to football purgatory.
