Haven't been up there fishing for a few years. Last time I was there I caught a nice 22" brown. Fishing was crap up high, not much rain to get the water up. We took off to the bottom about a mile up from the lake and got into some nice fish fresh out of the lake on plugs. That was awesome! Pere Marquette

Considering we are still in lockdown along with thousands unemployed atm, if the steelhead season showed me anything this year, it's gonna be packed like never before. Betsies steelhead season is usually one parking lot full, this year it was two lots full. This year for salmon is gonna be nuts. Make sure to bring a flake jacket lol

Good for you. When I grew up in MI going to college, I feasted on a freezer of salmon, deer, rabbit, squirrel, steelhead. Like you said, it's a well earned meal. Not everybody has the time or resources to fish them in the Lakes when they're fresh.

That's a more unique opinion i figure. There's a reason why you can't go to the restaurants and get a brown trout dinner. Even though its spread world wide,its a very adaptable and easy enough to farm......That said i respect the opinion. That salmon wasn't that dark, but the meat was a light color. The meat of salmon in Oregon have a lot redder color. The fall chinook meat does lose its color as they get darker though. You have a much greater advantage because there are more fish in Michigan than Oregon.

Glad I came across your video. Great content, passion for the sport, great shares! MSU tested salmon meat quality over the course of their 4th year of life years ago. No measurable difference! So, Bon Appetite! Try grilled, skin down, lemon pepper and butter, 12 minutes. Cover with Parmesan. Cover till cheese browns slightly and fillet releases from the skin. Serve on wild rice. Also, try Maple Syrup on the filets. Wonderful. Guessing I have caught thousands, you have a good pattern. I would fish a slip bobber with a stop, both both work. Try fighting the fish with your rod close and parallel to the water. The fish usually won’t run so much. If you fight vertical to the water, the fish runs. That brown u caught and released was a toad! If the big browns are aggressive, then the salmon are dropping eggs. That hen u caught looked spawned out....That fish, with a mouth that is rounded and only opens to the eye is a female. The males have a mouth that extends past the eye and this time of year are hooked in the jaw. Be sure and stick a stick in the anal orifice before you lift the fish. Subsequently, preventing dumping loose eggs. Rinse loose eggs with river water immediately, which seals the eggs and turns them into rubber balls that tie in sacks well. Maybe see u on the river.... 🍀👍🇺🇸😷🎯

Went out on the Manistee yesterday only had one hit but the freaky part is, we saw a dead body in the river. Not far from Manistee Lake when the Sheriff patrol 's and ambulance service the body was on shore for what seemed like 4 hours wrapped up.

I was gonna try running a trailer hook like that does it help a lot with hookups bc this year I’ve noticed lots of short bites

I think it increases my hookup ratio, hard to say for sure though. Between that and the peace of mind of having two hooks in the fish, it's worth it to me to take the extra time to rig the trailer hook up

Never understood why people get so mad about eating a river run king. As long as they aren't degrading and have marks on them, they're still an easily edible fish. I definitely prefer my lake caught fish, but a smoked or cedar-planked river king is no complaint from me

There will always be haters. Learned a great deal about centerpin from your videos. Just curious if you still do any fly fishing for salmon during the season? Great job. Our run down south will.be few weeks behind. Maybe in 1 to 2 years we will come test out the mi run. We catch plenty every season but would love to fish with you some day. I picked up 2 center pin rods to test out but one seems to light and one seems to heavy. Still learning about centerpin. We do strictly fly fishing only each season.
