As a Canadian steelheader I remember going to Michigan the Maniatee and the Betsie rivers float fishing and not seeing any Americans doing it. They were fascinated with the way we fished using floats to present our baits to the fish. Within a few years more and more Americans were buying float rods and reels and enjoying this productive way of fishing.

What a nail biting , suspense keeping video! I loved how you jumped in the cold(I’m sure) water. Love the excitement on Meggs face when she hooked into one. I absolutely love your videos and tutorials! I love how your passion and addiction for these steelhead never ever changes through the years, no matter the geography the company or the weather! You are a class act! Love that Meggs fishes with you now in these videos! Keep them coming! I don’t know where this one was hiding for me to miss it for 6 months! But am excited to try this bottom bouncing technique!

I use the same bottom bouncing method! Instead of tying a knot in sinker line, I wrap the line around my split shot before I pinch it on. I get hung up on bottom, a little pull and your sinkers come sliding right off! Awesome video as always!!

@0JohnH
@0JohnH 2 жыл бұрын
It does help running braid line but make sure you have a bumber line connected to the braid. That way you don't fill the hole/ river with braid.

That's what I noticed about here versa Pacific Northwest it seems like we get a lot of those overhanging bushes that tangle up our lines and everything Pacific Northwest I get all those sharp boulders I'm sure they run into the overhanging branches too but it seems like we just get a lot of really Tangled up bushes on the River edge

Awesome video Kyle. Question on the bottom bouncing, are you letting any line out to extend the drift or just casting across, closing the bail and then letting it swing the hole? I was on the PM this past weekend and found myself trying the bottom bouncing as much as my pin float setup. I found myself letting line out doing the drift, kind of like swinging with a flyrod but not sure if this is the best way to bottom bounce and keep that constant/tight connection with the rig; Did not have any luck though; really was trying to get my son his first Steelie. Any info appreciated, thanks again for the vids and content.

Last time I was out I got so much hate for bottom bouncing. How long you think we still have left till the steelhead moves out because I'm thinking about a last trip. Also are you going to do some videos on river skamania?
@kylemcclelland88
@kylemcclelland88 2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like something a centerpin purist would say😅 now if you’re bottom bouncing a 8’ leader with a double fly rig you may be a flosser- but a single bead,fly, spawn bag or crawler on a 2-4’ leader is money! bottom bouncing can 100% be more effective that float fishing many times- especially in fast deep water where it’s hard to slow your float and get down to the fish. you can also pin point casts right near and under structure to get to areas you could never hit with a float. It’s also a great way to make long casts and cover lots of water if you’re shore fishing on a large river.
@0JohnH
@0JohnH 2 жыл бұрын
@@kylemcclelland88 I also had a float rod and would only bottom bounce after I was leaving the hole. My setup was exactly how it was in this video but was using spawn. I did no false sets and only set the hook when I felt that crunch. And like how you said, they're very aggressive but only when you get the right drift.

@tinman8518

I agree. The fish doesn't have to be "revived" either. Great video though otherwise.
@kylemcclelland88
@kylemcclelland88 2 жыл бұрын
The “clip” or boga grip is on a swivel so it’s swiveling as the fish turns- therefore, there is no excess pressure on the fishes teeth. The “clips” fit into a grove on the bottom jaw of the fish so it’s not in any harmful position near the gills. This is a great way for inexperienced anglers to hold fish for photos without harming them. It also gives the fish time to be revived if need be. When the water/air temperatures are in the 30’s/40’s and the fish is only out of the water for a second, you’re right, they probably don’t need to be revived. When the temps get into the 50’s however, they absolutely should be revived for a bit just to insure they’re healthy. If they’re released immediately and float up(especially in fast water) then they’re likely to get swept into structure that they won’t recover from.
