Just a thought…. If you attach your tether chest high or higher, it will allow you greater lateral movement, but still pivot you right back to the tree if there is a catastrophic failure of your stand. SRT saddle hunter advice. Try it. You may like it. Plus you can more easily turn your back to the tree!

I have this set up minus the pouch and it works for bigger stature guys. I am new to saddle hunting and come from a ladderstand/tree climber background. It held me as I am 5' 6" nearly 300 lbs without gear. I have used it nearly a dozen times and a couple of times I somehow ended up swinging freely on a tree. This gave me great confidence in the capability and quality of performing. This was the only saddle (so far) that accommodated me as I have tried other saddles that friends have. They have a great set up, but they didn't work for me. Yes you can layer up after setting up in the tree. I have a lot I can add with the little experience I have, but my last comment didn't get posted. Great video to help me use this saddle more efficiently. Thank you!

I have the same Tether. I saw a great video on attaching a tether the other day and tries it today. It worked exceptionally well. Before you put your tether around the tree put your hand through the eye grab the rope and pull some through it. This will create a loop. Now put your tether around the tree and through the loop you made and not the sewn eye. This creates a girth hitch and it bites on tree tremendously and doesn’t slide down an inch
@MichiganGreatOutdoors

Thanks for sharing, I switched to the latitude tether and it bites so good that one doesn't slip on me.

@@MichiganGreatOutdoors I saw your reviews on Tethers and that you liked the Lattitiude. If I buy another I’ll give that one a try. With that being said even if it bites like you say I’m still going to do it the way I explained. It’s definitely puts you at ease knowing how well it’s bites

Great video. I use my saddle as my safety harness when I am using a tree stand in this same fashion. One thing you could do is go to a store that sells climbing equipment and get a piece of Dynamic rope. It has stretch built in to help absorb a fall for rock climbers. It could be a fairly inexpensive option for your tether.

I am a little late but I run something similar and you can take that tag end back through either the loop or under the belt and then tied back to the extension coming off the tree. Adds a little more protection and gets it out of the way a little. If you also have your platform and last stick height the same you can use the stick to walk partly around the tree and get a shot behind you like a saddle. Definitely use the leg straps, years ago I had a tree stand let go on me 25’ up and I was wearing just a safety belt around my waist and no leg straps. It saved me but it hurt my ribs like crazy and knocked the breathe out of me riding up from my waist. Good hunting!

@@MichiganGreatOutdoors I was actually watching a nice buck about 100 yds away when cables gave out. I heard this “ooooffffff” and was wondering what that was until I realized I was dangling from my safety belt and the pain hit. Thankfully I was able to pull myself up to the seat, unbuckle and climb down. Took me a while to get to where I could walk out. I forgot my safety stuff at the truck that day and realized it when I got to the tree and I almost hunted with out it but walked back and grabbed it. Sure glad I did, pretty sure if I would have hit the ground I would have been run through by some stick ups on the ground. Enjoy your no fluff content brother 👍.

Nice vid. Good explanation. REI has numerous rock climbing harnesses and waist band and legs straps are thicker and padded. Only thing can't find one with lineman loops. But use your tether thru baloo loop for that purpose. Under $70

I run my tether about chest to neck high with it and doing it that way you can take all of the slack out. Also doing it that way you can use it like a saddle if you need to shoot right behind the tree.
@MichiganGreatOutdoors
@MichiganGreatOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
Solid idea, ill probably try that in the barn and see how I like it. Always figured it was better around hip high so if I sit down Its all good.
@kyledobson1607
@kyledobson1607 2 жыл бұрын
When I sit down I either run the tether over my should/chest or you can run it behind your back and under your arm pit. I actually like running the tether over my shoulder when I’m sitting and if I’m standing up with my back against the tree. Doing this actually stabilizes me for my strong side shot and I can lean into the tether. If the deer are on my weak side I just turn it into a saddle with no slack in the tether and that stabilizes me for the weak side.
@kyledobson1607
@kyledobson1607 2 жыл бұрын
Also, with my tag end of my tether I do a figure 8 knot or a scaffold knot and tie it into the carabiner. That way it’s out of the way and it backs up my friction hitch.

It would be something I would consider if the leg straps were wider for the back of the legs. As I climb with the one stick method. So I need paying for back of my legs.
@MichiganGreatOutdoors
@MichiganGreatOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
They offer a better option now for leg straps, they didnt sell it before. However Im not sure this is really viable for one sticking. Seems like it would create way to much pressure on your legs and waiste. Where as a regular saddle spreads it all out.
