Kingsley North is a lapidary store in Michigan's U.P. They make a great cab machine and sell many other brands too. They have a huge selection rough rock, tumblers, grit, jewelry supplies etc. at good prices. I buy most of my coarse grit from here in 45 lb. bags. It's the best price I have found. If you buy using the following link, I make a small commission.

I'm not sure it was chert and I was trying to limit the rocks I put in the Jeep since it was really full with camping gear. The agates there are great, but the variety on a lot of Michigan beaches is much better. It's hard to say which is better but they sure are different.

It should be noted that Minnesota has a law prohibiting removal of rocks from state parks and public waysides, so be sure you know the status of the beach when you visit.

Agate hunting on the North Shore will spoil a person compared to hunting in Michigan's U.P.! On our last trip up there, we found more agates in two days than we found all season on the "south shore"! (The water falls are pretty amazing on the North Shore, too!)

Have you ever used glass beads in tumbling rocks, could you use them instead of the ceramic pellets or plastic pellets ? Sorry for all of the questions but I am just starting tumbling rocks and don't know anything about it except I like the looks of the polished rocks.
@MichiganRocks
@MichiganRocks Жыл бұрын
I haven't used them, but I suppose you could. The problem would be that they'd wear down really fast because glass is pretty soft compared to most rocks. Ceramic media is very hard compared to the same rocks, so they last a long time.

Are you talking about the Kona Dolomite? I get that at Lindberg and Sons quarry in Marquette. However, I was just at Kingsley North and they have some old stuff that was picked up before they started blasting it out, so it doesn't have all the fractures. It also has nice colors. You really have to dig to find nice, dark pinks.
