In '73 I saw these guys for the first time. I snuck under the rope while they were playing and got a close-up picture of Mick facing the rear of the stage, but that meant facing right at me. He of course had a cigarette attached to the end of the guitar.

Great interview! And he has his own fully justified reasons for his picks, of course. But for me as merely a listener and fan, I'll actually agree with his first two and 5th picks (debut, Demons & Wizards, Wake The Sleeper) while replacing his 3rd with Look At Yourself and his 4th with Sea Of Light. Or I likely would replace their debut with Into The Wild. But regardless, "Sea Of Light" and "Demons and Wizards" are my top two, without a doubt!

Finally somebody cited Sea of Light! I discovered Heep in the mid 80’s and bought many of the old albums. Demons and Wizards blew me away and made me a believer. However I enjoyed all the early records right up to Sweet Freedom, after which they tailed off and I stopped listening. Sure Abominog was a rebirth record but I found it overrated. Then I heard nothing more from them until I picked up Popoff’s collectors guides to metal. Now armed with Spotify and KZbin I have checked out many of the later records and got blown away again. Sea of Light is a forgotten masterpiece and criminally underrated. See how few even mention it?

Any Heep albums with Ken Hensley were good. I don't like the remaining albums though.

I was subliminally urging Mick to say the magician's birthday.. I would have to include that in my personal favorites

I hung out with Mick Box at a gig I was playing in El Paso in 1985. He was just like this. So friendly. It was one of my favorite classic rock star encounters ever.

@@davidvasquez8658 Do you remember a rock club in the ‘80s that had a spinning barbers chair? They would mix drinks in your mouth and then spin the chair? That was the club Mick and I were at.

Very humble bloke,Cockney accent, reminds me Steve Harris in the way he Talk and the sense of humor, working class attitude, anyway,It's a pleasure seeing Mick Talkin' about his favourite albums and It's not Easy to pick only five great albums, that's how great are Uriah Heep to me,could be Seven albums at least and I'm not a hughe die hard fan of the band but surely they eat in same table with Deep Purple,Led Zeppelin and Blacksabbath and not necessarily in that order,so this is my top 5 àlbums. 1.Look at yourself. 2.The Magician's birthday 3.Demons and Wizards. 4.Sweet Freedom 5.Firefly.
