Mick Lyons scores Everton FC’s second goal against Aston Villa FC in this Football League Cup Final, second replay which was played at Old Trafford, Manchester on the 13th April 1977. Attendance: 54,749. Aston Villa went on to lift the cup beating Everton FC 3-2 after extra time. Mike Lyons played for Everton FC between 1971 and 1982 making 390 appearances and scoring 48 goals.

At this game as a school kid, cried at the end when Mike Lyons led the team to our end tears running down his face, proper Blue Lyons would run through a brick wall for Everton 💙

Blimey!! went through some emotions that night, don't think i have ever seen a player more gutted than Mike Lyons at the end.it was a real sickener, Be nice if the blues made this years final after all the recent gloom.

Part of a generation of golden opportunities missed. Mick Lyons should have had a League title and two appearances in the F A Cup Final to show for his time at Goodison.

Yeah I was at that game didn't get into half time we had tickets for the West ham side manager to get in still haunts me that lampard goal it took age to go in

@@markcartwright8907 The idea that Everton Supporters outnumbered Villa supporters 4/1 is absurd. The Everton average crowd was less than 30,000 that season. Everton were at Maine Road a couple of weeks later, for the FA Cup Semi Final. What was the split between the Everton supporters and the murderers there?

@@markcartwright8907 Its a definite no. We had the scoreboard End and the main stand side. Old Trafford is a lot nearer Liverpool than Birmingham so its stands to reason that there were more Everton suppoters than Villa supporters. No doubt the crime figures on that night for Liverpool burglaries, and muggings in Manchester would help to pinpoint how many Everton supporters were there. Wasn't really a good time to support Everton was it? Brian Little in March, Clive Thomas in April, Rome in May...
