Seen the arrow on the doorpost Saying, "This land is condemned All the way from New Orleans To Jerusalem." I traveled through East Texas Where many martyrs fell And I know no one can sing the blues Like Blind Willie McTell Well, I heard the hoot owl singing As they were taking down the tents The stars above the barren trees Were his only audience Them charcoal gypsy maidens Can strut their feathers well But nobody can sing the blues Like Blind Willie McTell See them big plantations burning Hear the cracking of the whips Smell that sweet magnolia blooming (And) see the ghosts of slavery ships I can hear them tribes a-moaning (I can) hear the undertaker's bell (Yeah), nobody can sing the blues Like Blind Willie McTell There's a woman by the river With some fine young handsome man He's dressed up like a squire Bootlegged whiskey in his hand There's a chain gang on the highway I can hear them rebels yell And I know no one can sing the blues Like Blind Willie McTell Well, God is in heaven And we all want what's his But power and greed and corruptible seed Seem to be all that there is I'm gazing out the window Of the St. James Hotel And I know no one can sing the blues Like Blind Willie McTell

Please fix the misspelling of Metell (s/b McTell) in your title. It's buggin' the heck outta me. Otherwise, killer version here. Classic Mick Taylor guitar. Makes me wish he'd never left the Stones, but...

Of course, Mick does a hell of a job with this but it really needs to be heard live by Dylan. Dylan has a feel that no amount of slickness and studio perfection can rise above.

So missing the point of this cover.
@mitchgawlik11752 жыл бұрын
@@charlescicirella2670 Until someone explains "the point of this cover" I'll stick with my opinion. It seems to simply be a showpiece for Mick's guitar prowess.
@Mf27Groove2 жыл бұрын
Better vocal, guitar oriented and bluesy and musically a more precise tribute to the title character. Great guitar work over a brilliant piano groove.
@mitchgawlik11752 жыл бұрын
@@Mf27Groove Yes, Michael, but is better always best? Smooth and slick doesn't necessarily convey the feeling that some songs can put forth. Most of us that grew up in the '60s will remember the Animals' version of "House of the Rising Sun". Eric Burden doesn't have the voice of an angel but, for all intents and purposes, that was a well produced recording, but Bob Dylan's version has him as a tortured soul telling a life story. Sometimes that's just what I want from a song. Any rock fan with a lick of sense knows Mick Taylor is a master guitar slinger, I wasn't trying to take anything away from him. Have a good one.
@nwaelder Жыл бұрын
@@mitchgawlik1175 I’ll take a shot. 1) Dylan wrote a wonderful tribute to a great bluesman. The poetry and “St John’s Infirmary” vibe of the melody are top notch. 2) Mick Taylor played it like the journeyman bluesman he’s been his whole life. Transformed like another great bluesman did with another great Dylan composition.. All Along the Watchtower.

Mi disse un famoso esperto di musica rock: " sono d'accordo con te Mick Taylor è un grande chitarrista, purtroppo ha poca voce". Esatto, purtroppo ha poca voce altrimenti sarebbe perfetto.

Yeah! Bob Dylans alter Weggefährte macht das wirklich gut. Aber: Nobody can sing this song like Robert Allen Zimmerman!
