Mickey Mouse Club: "Ronnie Robertson and Willie Kall"

1956 Olympic Silver Medalist Ronnie Robertson was a guest star on the original Mickey Mouse Club. He skates his Olympic free skate for the mouseketeers. Also included is Willie Krall of the Ice Capades skating a comedy number in drag.

Just to think...Ronnie Robertson was Tab Hunter's boyfriend. I absolutely loved this era...the REAL Golden AGE! Men were so HANDSOME and the skating was EXCITING!

It seems that :I remember the original Mac had a segment or segments once a week or so. There was a live action pirate series. If I remember correctly,it would open as if LOOKING through a telescope at a JOLLY ROGER on the mast of the pirate ship....I've been looking and looking ,no luck.. Any info would be AWESOME!!! Hard to tell if thats real ice or plastic ?Ronnie was living in the same area I was in Southern Calif.I bet many didn't know he was gay back then.esp.the fans.

The slapstick comedy skating routine was funny, and I think I would've liked it back in the '50s too. But there's no real "reason" for Willie to be dressed as a woman, except that maybe it makes his ungainliness more amusing. But today, if you put a man in drag on a mainstream kids' show, there would be complaints from right-wing groups.

Crossdressing was a common tool in a comedian's arsenal way back in them days. Nobody remembers anything else Milton Berle did, for one. The "politicization" began only when people started doing it as an outward affirmation of the self.
