I don’t have daughters I don’t have kids but I do understand because being a gay woman- Everything is stacked against women women of color gay or straight like she says but if I had a daughter I would tell her the truth- That anything she wants to do is possible but because of the world that we live in where men are the dominant figures- Whatever She wants to do within reason the absolutely go for but- two also continue with getting for their education and a back up plan that she can live with. I am big on being honest I was raised by a Buffalo Cop- so I would encourage her to go from what she wants but also let her know The reality of this life and playing this song for her with lyrics there’s also a great idea.

Actually, historically, traditional/roots/Americana/country music would not be what it is, may not actually exist, if not for black artists. Not much credit given. Check out Ken Burns' Country Music documentary, especially the first couple episodes. Taught me a lot and gave me a new appreciation.

Ken Burns documentary was just excellent and thrilling. Didn't know the banjo was made in Africa, and that so many black country artists, were completely written out of history. Not to mention the fact that there used to be a plethora of female country singers from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and by the mid 2000's, the bottom dropped out. Now you have just a handful of women country singer, and country radio won't play two female singers back to back anymore. Mr. Burns documentary brought back so many memories, like Kathy Mattea's song: Where've You Been, and all the songs of Rosanne Cash, Dwight Yoakam, Charlie Pride, and thanks to the documentary, i now know about DeFord Bailey, Arnold Shultz and others.
@lorelllasecki819210 ай бұрын
Charley Pride helped pave the way for black country artists & he was a FAVORITE of mine & my Mom's from 1966, on. I had his Hits on 8-Track, yes I said 8-Track, that were a MUST, when Sunbathing {NOT Good-Got Melanoma} & taking summer trips from Florida to Virginia each year to visit my Father & his side of our Family. When Darius Rucker came to Country Music Land, I was elated to know that he Wasn't just a Pop singer from Hootie & the Blowfish, who I Still LOVE Today. I'm not too picky when it comes to Most Genres of music, except rap. It's too hard for me to understand the Words or Meanings at times, so I don't listen much. My interest in music started in the early mid 60's with Mostly the 50's songs & The Monkees! What girl didn't LOVE Davy Jones! Lol

A remarkable song with the truth resounding powerfully with each word. It brought tears to my eyes. I am the mother of a sweet young lady. I try to take care of myself so I'll live a long time to be there for her. The world has a lot of beauty in it but it can be so dark and ugly. I, too, was once naive about people and have come to learn to "be careful." I'm more of a cynic than saint because of what I've really discovered. However, despite the let downs, negativity, greed and meanness of mankind there is goodness that offer us hope and restore faith. By trying to be what we would like to see, I hope it's enough to sustain our children long after we're gone. Goodness reigns. Thank you Mickey for such a poignant song.
