Songwriting is honesty. When I write I can be honest about exactly how I'm feeling. That came through in this song because it was raw, real emotion. ✍🏾

I love this song. I have lived this song. I'd tell her to keep going. Keep fighting. Don't quit. I just became the first Black female judge in Seminole County, Florida - home of the Trayvon Martin case. I won in an election. My win was unprecedented. I give all honor to God for a myriad reasons. I had 1/3 of the money my opponent had. The deck was stacked. It's always been. Having been unsuccessful in every other attempt, I almost didn't even run. So, yes...you have to keep going. You have to keep fighting. Prayer and perseverance go a long way!

Thank you and congratulations, Donna! Your story is necessary historically and right now. With the loss of RBG on the Supreme Court and Kamala Harris ready to step in, it's like we are on the precipice of real progress. If the Republican party were not controlled by White Old Rich Men (WORMs) who prefer power over principle, we could have balance and peace and equality.

What am I gonna tell my daughters that I built them up so the world could let them down? Stunning in light of the fact that my daughter told me one day that after being on the honor roll in high school and graduating college cum laude, she spent years working a crap retail job and she told me, “Dad, I did everything you said. I worked hard and played by the rules and...this.”

The responses to this comment really show how out of touch our world is with this dilemma, how in the dark they are about how unfair life really is. Hard work and dedication, for many and most, often leads nowhere. This world is on fire... but we can build something out of the ashes. I hope in the late future when equality is truly fair and just, they’ll still be listening to music like this.

This song breaks me to my knees every time I hear it. I raised two bi-racial children, spent my days and nights building them up, encouraging, hoping, praying, working, to see the world tear them down unmercifully. The hardest part of parenting is what to tell your children when their best isn't good enough and when they are judged by things that shouldn't matter and that they can't change.

Thank you, Mickey. Every time I hear this song (and I listen to it a lot!), I see my daughters and my granddaughter and I think of the beauty and pain that they encounter. My daughters are adults who can tell me more than I tell them. My granddaughter is too young still. But one day I have to work with her parents and make sure she knows that the world is a rough place, but she is loved and cherished and I will always be there for her. Thank you for this and for your other penetrating songs. You are making a difference. Please keep doing what you're doing. We need you.

I don’t really believe you are a Songwriter cuss other wise you would know about Taylor’s amazing lyrics. She even makes songs about important subjects even. You need to calm down is about gay rights, only the young and miss Americana are both about politics. Epiphany is about covid and the Healthcare nurses. Don’t drag someone’s name in to this if the only song you’ve ever heard of them is shake it of.
