This is part 2 exploring the deep reef edges, it had already been an epic day fishing, by this time our esky was almost full of coral trout and red throat from the morning session in part 1, if you haven’t seen it yet it’s pinned in the comments.
As the tide changed the weather got crazy so I made the call to head in a little bit closer and the contrast in conditions was incredible. So we stopped in for a few esky fillers and weren’t disappointed!!
Enjoy the show ✌🏻

Love the vids cobber. What rod was your mate in the middle swinging off? One of your usual suspects? I’m impressed it didn’t let go around the 17 minute mark👌🏼

Mick love the vids, jigging looks like something I want to get into but your gear is a bit out of the budget especially if it turns out I Dont enjoy it as much, is there any rods and reels you would recommend with say a 5-600 budget?

Thanks mate!! Jigging is definitely worth putting the time and money into, it’s effectiveness and the ability to work a lot of ground reasonably quick adds to its efficiency. There is a little bit to it but luckily a lot of our species up here are really aggressive and don’t always require perfect technique, so having everything super dialed in isn’t critical to put together a good feed. The price of most decent jigging reels on the market will blow out that budget real quick, knowing what I know these days I’ll say, keep saving… I’m not trying to be rude here so hopefully it doesn’t come across that way..! 😅 one thing I’ll add is that you don’t want to go to a spin reel as that eliminates 90%of your feel on the drop resulting in less hookups and lost lures… there are cheaper reels than the Ocea jigger I’m running but tbh they’re not that much cheaper that it warrants the lesser quality and durability. Go and have a look how small and compact these combos are and then imagine the pressure you’re putting over them… the amount of pressure required to stop a big red of other big cool stuff, consistently is quite significant when you compare the size of the gears used to crank them up, if you don’t want to be replacing reels all the time, buy the good stuff! To put the price into perspective, an Ocea Jigger 1500HG is around $615 if you hunt around the specials… I’ve had my gold one in the video since late 2014, it’s had a good life but it’s still as nice as a brand new one with minimal maintenance just a standard clean and 2 services in that time… I’ve used that reel alot! Chuck a lay by on and lock into it and chuck it on a slow element and you’ll never look back!

@@Micksgonefishing thanks for the time to reply. If I am to spend the money on the better equipment would you pair the reel to a PE 3 or PE 4 rod (I’m not used to PE on rods thought it was more to do with line diameter) I have a 4.2m tinny to fish around inshore/close islands close to Mackay and seaforth but get out wide a bit in a mates boat chasing reds etc. so trying to cover all bases.

Bro when do you use the nomad vertex vibe jig vs metal jig? I bought 12 nomad vertex vibe jig during the black Friday, I hope they are worth the investment. I hope that jig would work well with groupers.
@Micksgonefishing
@Micksgonefishing Жыл бұрын
Depends a lot on the conditions, you need a lot less current to be able to fish the vibe efficiently. But it’s definitely worth having both options as some days they won’t touch a jig and others they won’t touch a vibe…

Why dont you show the camera all the fish you catch? People watch to see what you are catching.

I try to remember to hold up all the fish but mostly the ones I just throw back are less desirable species… it’s hard to remember everything on the spot when you’re catching a lot of fish. I’m trying to keep it fun too so the less chores the better 👌🏻

@@Micksgonefishing Ya I get it. There's are so many species that might be something you see all the time but me as a grower depending where you're living, don't ever get to see those. No biggie !! Love the vids!)
