So good to see you settling in ! This grandma suggests that you begin (ASAP) to build up an emergency pantry . Winter has a few surprises for us all and there is no reason to be without food , especially when you are not feeling well ! Perhaps canned soups and chili , pasta and sauces , canned meats and fish , crackers and a few cookies , tea , coffee and hot cocoa , etc These items are perfect for filling an empty stomach and for the well-meaning to tuck into "care packages " ! Please don't forget cold meds and first aid !

We recently had 6 to 8 inches of snow in flat west Tennessee and we didn't have to participate in the run of the bulls at the grocery store. Someone posted a few photos of the empty bread, milk, eggs, and meat sections. We now stay stocked and rotated canned goods, bread in the freezer a gallon of milk in both refrigerators and canned and frozen meat. I have propane for the heater, gas for the generators, and three power stations charged up. Being in our 70s, we just don't enjoy the mob at the grocery store anymore. It was once like a sport, but not anymore. The snow came last Thursday night and Friday, and we went out to eat today, our first day out. We live in earthquake country so staying stocked is a luxury year-round...

That little Pontiac Vibe is a great car, amazing the amount of stuff you can fit into it. We had a 2004 Vibe we drove for years, I used to pick up parts for my husband's auto body shop and when I pulled up to the parts places with it they would say "You'll never fit this (fender, trunk lid, bumper, etc.) in there." It surprised them every time, lol Nice to see you getting settled in your cozy cabin. Rest up and get better soon!

Mick, I love these type of videos - just the simple daily life in your world is fascinating. I find It is interesting to see your trips to the store, where you go, and prices you pay. Even though you may be embarrassed by filming in stores or out in public, just know that we love it. Your building projects, your art work, and just your growth as a young man in AK has been really cool to see. When I first watched you, I didn’t have the “Whipple faith” (you like that one? - 😊), but I am happy that you proved me wrong. Great work, great videos of your life there. I hope you feel better. I wonder what you could do to make your cabin retain more heat. In a previous video you said you wake up and the cabin is the same temp as the outside. More thermal mass around the fire stove? Figuring out how to make the fire stove burn longer on a lower air setting? Getting a fully insulated door with good weather stripping all around? Getting window coverings? I'm not sure what they're called, but in really cold climates they sell these things that are like big clear adhesive sheets, and you affix them to the inside of your window frames, so that it creates a big pocket of sealed air between the plastic and the glass, it's supposed to reduce heat loss by a huge amount. I wonder what options would make the biggest difference.
